Subtitles

I've noticed subtitles only seem to work when you're in conversation, but not in the world when you pass by NPCs or hear them in caves. Am I missing a setting for this?

Having same thoughts. It works when in dialogue with anyone, but when out and about in the open world, no subtitles show up. Guess that would categorize as general subtitles, but even when my subtitle visibility is on, it still lacks the general subtitles.

Yeah I don't see a separate setting for general subtitles, just on or off. It's difficult to hear with some of the weather/ambience. Doesn't look like answers will be given here though, the forums are all cluttered with reposts of the same thing that's not even a bug

I've seen subtitles from npcs I'm not in conversation with, but it's very finicky. Especially if more than one person is talking at a time, or if I'm slightly too far away.

Same. Been combing the settings and not finding anything to fix it. I've seen them, but seems like it's not showing if there is more then 1 character talking at a time. As someone who is very hard of hearing, this needs to get fixed ASAP.

Yeah, having issues too — I'm deaf. Seriously, this is 2025, not 1990. Come on, devs.

grab obse (oblivion remastered script extender), and baka achievement enabler (obse plugin) on nexusmods
then type "subtitle 1" in the console screen after you started the game
maybe you have to type this command everytime when you launch oblivion

i really wish this problem solved asap
