Fixing FPS: got stable 50-80 FPS on my 1650Ti with 4Gb vram lol
so I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with my work laptop for fun and somehow made it playable even on that potato lol

0) set low resolution like 1600*900 or 1920*1080, resolution scaling at 100% and/or FSR3 to "performance" with 70% sharpness, other settings to low xcept textures those can be set at medium since we'll be using 70% of available VRAM anyways (thanks to engine tweaks), low textures look extremely crappy and make absolutely no difference performance-wise vs medium ones trust me on this one I tested it for an hour or so
1) get a nice engine.ini, I used this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/35?tab=description
it even have some useful comments and formatting in it
IMPORTANT: use 1.2 version from archived versions, newer ones stutter alot on <8Gb VRAM specs
2) the most important part: turn off fookin Lumen there (it doesn't do ♥♥♥♥ in "software" mode anyways) (ty HerrTiSo) look for
[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0
and
[ConsoleVariables]
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0
3) goto engine.ini properties and set it as "read-only" cuz it will rewrite it to default any time you change your settings in the game otherwise, so better set em all up before tinkering with the engine.ini to avoid all the extra fuss and frustration

finally - enjoy your stable framerates anywhere, performance should skyrocket compared to default settings

Holy **** you just made my day. I'm only getting like 50fps now but hey that's playable for me. Way better than 20 Lol

Oh well, it stopped. It gives me solid FPS for a little but after walking around for a few minutes it crashes back down and won't stabilize...
Nice to see it helped ya! I did some sneakish playin at work yesterday for a bit, turned out setting FSR3 to "performance" + 70% sharpness makes it even better (just turn FXAA/TAA or whatever off cuz otherwise the pic is way too muddy IMO)

Same, 3080ti and eventually, whether after a minute or 5, the fps slowly degrades back down into the 20s no matter what I do, including with everything set low.

I'm still using ver 1.2 of that mod cuz 1.3+ leads to heavy stuttering every second, dude probably tried to squeeze a bit more out of memory but his tweaks apparenly aimed at ppl with cards that have >8Gb memory, 1.2 still works flawlessly hmm

that's memory running out (or more precisely reaching 90+%) you can fix that turning off FSR/DLSS cuz they gobble up memory like there is no tomorrow AND setting resolution low - resolution is the main reason vcards need ridiculous amounts of memory nowadays, so yeah it's fixable but you better prep for some extensive tinkerin :)

what's the rest of your setup? I have 5800x, 32gb ddr4, and 2080ti and I get a solid 60-80 fps outdoors and 90-120 outdoors (1440p btw). I run performance dlss, rtx on, and everything is on medium.

I mainly did it for fun on my old work notebook Ryzen4800H / 1650Ti 4Gb / 16Gb DDR4 / SSD 1Tb, this is apparently way too low to play the game comfortably, so yeah people with desktop hardware can definitely tinker the game up to a playable smooth state

yeah I'd recommend ya people who have trouble to use 1.2 of
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/35?tab=files&category=archived
just don't forget to set it "read only" after edits
as a sidenote, did get even more FPS (and much crisper picture aswell as a bonus) by disabling the damn soapy fog:
[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.Fog=0
r.VolumetricFog=0
(all the mods doing that are on Nexus ofc I just took the relevant bits out since they all modify engine.ini but none are particularly optimized to look nice on potatoes lol)
