How to lockpick?

Maybe im just not getting it, but im not understanding the sound cues and which tumblers to press up first. I'm much more familiar with Skyrim's style of lockpicking, is there a better tutorial that explains how lockpicking works better than the in-game description? I've wasted so many lockpicks...

There is no order.

You can set any pin you like. Move the pin up, if it moves up quickly or suddenly, then the pin is loose. Don't set it.

If the pin moves up slowly, set it. That locks it in place. Do this for all the pins.

Lockpicking in this game: you first push up the pin, just do a few practice pushes.
When the pin is at the top you lock it, i use spacebar, but you can also use mouseclick, then you move to the next pin, if you lock all of them the lock opens.

You can also just do it the OG way - get a ton of lockpicks, find a very hard lock and break a ton of them on the the lock to quickly level up the skill to auto unlock everything

You have to do it only when it goes slowly and sticks properly. If you do it any other time you will fail so you have to be patient. Once you understand how it works then you can open master locks with ease since it only requires skill.

Here is what I learned from lockpicking a bunch of doors in Cyrodil: if you keep bumping the tumbler before it completely falls, it will continue to be at the same speed. So if you see the tumbler falling slow, hit it again and again until you are ready to click it in place. Once I learned this lockpicking became significantly easier.

Just move your mouse up under the lock pin. Wait for it to sort of sit in at the top. Most of the time it will either fall straight back down or look like its about to lock at the top but then drop back down again. Usually the pin will go up a lot slower than the other times to give you an indication that its the one to lock with (click the mouse button when a slow rising pin reaches the top)

THANK YOU OH MY GOD man I wasted like 20 picks on an easy lock because the tutorial instructions are garbage.
