So is this worth buying as a fan of the original or is it just a lazy cash grab?
as the title says.

It’s just a visual upgrade, not a full remake. Not worth the price at all
I recommend watching the reveal. They did quite a bit more than just upgrading visuals. They added voice actors, fixed leveling, and improved combat too.

So the animations don't look or feel improved. They removed character options and there are less hair styles, beards, no war paints, no scars. There are no quality of life changes like which dungeon you already cleared. They removed every dubbing language other than English. The underlying engine is old, so quick loading will still crash your game at times. The balancing is still terrible as in the original, having you switch either between too easy and really hard damage sponge enemy. I'm 100% certain there's still the issue of over leveling and have too strong enemy guard doors in certain main story locations. Battle sounds repeat too, making it feel daunting quickly. 2-h hammer weapon feel unplayable slow. If anything it shows how little work can be put into a remastered to sell it for 65€.

I feel it's worth it (480+ hours in the original). The visual upgrades are really nice, combat feels better ... some other small changes. But yeah, no modding support is a bummer, but there are already mods and more will come.

Not worth 50 euro if you already own the original (which had beautiful mods)

This game is also not up to current standards. No Full Path tracing. Weird screen space reflections, still popping in of textures, many loading screens. Akward moving NPCs. NPCs look like frozen puppets when talking.

No new content. Its the same game as the original one, with some graphic improvements, still, which is not on par with other modern games.

55€ for an old game, no thanks.

The latter. It's cash grab.

100% wrong, it is completely worth it if you liked the game and genre.

No, it's not worth it. The original game is the right way to play Oblivion. The new Oblivion is just a "modern" version - plastic-looking, ugly graphics combined with bad performance, typical UE5. And instead of choosing a gender, you choose a body type.
It's not just a cash grab at all even though the gameplay remains mostly unaltered, the new rendering, animations and textures makes it feel like you're playing a new game apart from the memories of the game that you have.

There are also interface QOL improvements and other things you will notice down the line but nothing mods haven't already done for the original.

Fast forward to around 9:40 to see Uriel in all his might, the detail on his face is great.

You can check out how it looks now as you will see it's very different than before, i'd say give it a go if you have money to spend and don't mind sticking with vanilla for a long time, it's not guaranteed mods will be ported over to UE5 so that might never happen tbh.

Normally i'm not a big fan of remasters, but Oblivion is such a dated game at this point even without official mod support it's hard for any fan of the series to let this one pass.

True, and wait for Beth to add creations club here to sell the mods for this visually upgraded edition and, after a while, start releasing a new "definitive edition" with the mods from CC for just 10 or 15 euro more, then a new "re-definitive edition" with a more complete pack of CC mods for only 10 or 15 euro more, etc.

BTW, Oblivion on GOG is on sale for 4.99 euro actually (ends up in about 44 hours from now). With no DRM, all the mods you want, total freedom in how to add them to your game, no forced updates, no AI code, without the usual Virtuos ports issues with perfomance, etc.

You do your research, watch lots of youtube videos, do your head scratching and use your freedom of choice to decide to buy or not. I dont see how its a cash grab when no one is forcing you to buy it.
I own it multiple times yet still bought it, cant review it yet not played enough.

It is way way better, let's be honest.
(not always, sometimes the old game is better)
