Are you rocking a dedicated sound card?
I’m used to 7.1 surround for all AAA games (and many indies) on these platforms… but Oblivion requires you to select the audio option manually in the settings, and simply doesn’t have an option for 7.1.
Surround sound, 5.1 or 7.1, works just fine on OG Oblivion (I think it needed OpenALSoft to work with discrete surround devices on Windows).
The problem with surround sound on the remaster, is that the routing seems to be all messed up.
OG Oblivion supports 7.1. Hell, even Morrowind supports 7.1 on PC.
