No 7.1 surround sound
It's 2025 and the only surround option is 5.1? And it's the same for the Xbox and PS5 version. Shame they didn't remaster the audio :-(

7.1 was wonky in OG Oblivion and required some 3rd party support if I recall. It was due to the need to compress the audio files onto a single disc. The Remaster uses the OG audio almost untouched but has added in some cutting room floor "lost" content as well as newly recorded audio (mostly spoken dialogue). I have no idea if Jeremy Soule was involved with the music or if any foley/environmental effects were edited or modified. It doesn't really sound like it.

Are you rocking a dedicated sound card?
Just playing on GeForce Now, Steam Deck and also tried the Xbox version on GamePass.

I’m used to 7.1 surround for all AAA games (and many indies) on these platforms… but Oblivion requires you to select the audio option manually in the settings, and simply doesn’t have an option for 7.1.

Definitely kinda disappointing. Looks like they're using Wwise middleware for the audio, which I assume should make audio integration easier. 7.1 and even Dolby Atmos / Microsoft Spatial is common with many games using Wwise now days, so I assume they just didn't know any better in regards to the expanse of surround sound speaker options.

Surround sound, 5.1 or 7.1, works just fine on OG Oblivion (I think it needed OpenALSoft to work with discrete surround devices on Windows).

The problem with surround sound on the remaster, is that the routing seems to be all messed up.
dude wants 7.1 sound for a game probably older then him LOL

OG Oblivion supports 7.1. Hell, even Morrowind supports 7.1 on PC.

If you’re looking for a true binaural 7.1 experience through headphones, I’d recommend the Sennheiser GSX 1000. I usually use bookshelf speakers, but today I switched to my HiFiMan Edition XS and noticed that DTS:X, Windows Sonic, and Dolby Atmos didn’t work properly. The GSX 1000, however, handled it effortlessly thanks to its built-in hardware surround processing.
