Fatal error - Unable to load save game

I tried to load quick save and nothing seemed to work
I then exited to main menu and tried to load the save (didn't allow me to load anything)
So i exited the game. I then got this error as follows.

Edit: Have been advised it has nothing to do with the Iron Gate + Key. Edited title and contents to reflect the issue.

Edit: Loaded the game for a 2nd time (noticed all my save files have been deleted)
so created a new save game (again) and saved as soon as i could after the character creation. and did the same thing. Unable to load any save game or delete any save file from in-game or main menu. then once I closed the game I got same error.

Edit: Nvidia driver version is 566.36

Found this "fix" on reddit - can confirm this does not work for this issue.

Okay so the crash is caused by one of nvidia's .dll files that ship with the game.
Go to: Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion Remastered\Engine\Plugins\Marketplace\nvidia\DLSS\Streamline\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64

and delete or rename the file sl.pcl.dll

The game will start up normally then.

Problem has been resolved.

Windows 11 apparently had my system enable a "feature" called "Controlled folder access"
Once this was disabled the game was able to save in the game.

Can you go into more detail here? I'm having the same issue, game crashing when trying to load quicksaves.

Was already off, so doesn't work for me. Someone else said reinstalling the game works so I'm going to try that.

I had to go back a couple of autosaves in an obilvion gate or else it would CTD everytime. thank god for autosaves!

Unfortunately it's the quicksaves and autosaves that aren't working for me. My actual manual savegame file will open. Reinstalling the game now to see if that works.

Reinstalling the game did not work. This issue needs to be fixed as quick/autosaves should load without issue in order for the game to be playable. Looks like I'll be manual saving often for now.

I dont have that setting enabled and its also doing this to my latest hard save.

It also seems to happen mostly when you save outside.
All my in-dungeon saves are fine and work.

Same for me, except it's my manual save and my quicksave that wont load. Only the autosaves will.

I would recommend with all these errors since this is the way I found and fixed my problem. Run steam.exe as administrator (may popup and tell you it may cause issues, just ignore) then run the game from Steam like you normally would and then in theory the program should tell you what is blocking Oblivion from saving or is causing issues. I did all these steps for example and then my Windows defender notified me that I had 10 notifications pending. I then took at look at those notifications and turned out it the issue was the Folder controlled access "feature" that needed to be disabled.

Hopefully if you do these steps I did you should see some errors from Windows defender and then you can address the issues.

(Also once/If you find the problem and fix it don't forget to exit steam and run normally)

Also.... SteamOS can't come soon enough for me. Windows is more bloat than Operating System at this point.
