The "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system" bug (Likely cause found)
This is just a heads up post for people that have been experiencing the following error message when trying to load the Remaster:
"DirectX 12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument."

I just did some investigation on this error in general (cause i've seen topics online of it occurring for other newer games as well) and I may have found a cause for the error.

Everyone that is having this issue, do the following instructions to troubleshoot it:

Run dxdiag on your system, click the Display tab, & on the right, under Drivers, look at where it says Feature Levels. Look at the numbers of the feature levels there. If the highest number you see is 11, then your graphics card is too old. If the feature level is 12_0 and/or 12_1 and it's still not running for you, then that means that the game requires Feature Level: 12_2 (aka DirectX 12 Ultimate.) Marvel Rivals & FF VII Remake both require the same feature level.

Make sure your OS and graphics drivers are updated to the latest version and, if they already are and you've already rebooted your system after updating your drivers only to still get the same error, then, theoretically, the only solution that's left is replacing the GPU with a 'newer' one that supports Feature Level: 12_2.

You can get around this, I posted a workaround here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2623190/discussions/0/604154270792573703/
On top of what CleansingKiller posted, if you're using Windows 10 and the specs of your GPU when researched online states that it should support feature 12_2 yet your dxdiag only shows Feature Levels 12_0 & 12_1, then you need to download and install the DirectX 12 Agility SDK.

Windows 11 supports 12_2 natively. Windows 10 doesn't support it on its own...but it can.

The DirectX 12 Agility SDK was designed to allow for dev to continue developing updates & advancements for DirectX 12 within the Windows 10 OS (and yes, that includes feature level 12_2 if your GPU supports it.) If it doesn't support it, use CleansingKiller's workaround.
Im getting the same error so I added -dx11 to tell the game to use DirectX11 and apparently these lame developers are only supporting DirectX12, Error is "Unable to launch with RHI DirectX 11 since the project is not configured to support it."

Windows 10 very much supports it natively assuming you meet minimum stated build on Steam Store page.

Agility SDK was added in specific revisions of v1903 and v21H1/H2, if the Windows is years out of date, it by default should be advised to update it, rather than using random workarounds that may or may not work in the next Agility SDK game.
I had the same problem. GPU and win10 were up to date. Upgrading to win11 got it working.

That's because Windows 10 is EOL and no one will be fixing bugs in it at this point :steamhappy:
