Storing items in containers
Played the ♥♥♥♥ out of oblivion OG but I can’t remember if you can store items in random containers and stuff. I guess I need to own the chest? Can’t seem to place my gear in any chest or anything.

IIRC only certain containers are safe for storage, namely ones in your owned houses.
I have stored items in containers, and when I fast travel to a different area, then return, the items disappear. So, storing items isn't safe.
I store things in random barrels all the time with no loss in the original. I know how to even do that now.

With the container open, you have to press F for Search and that will open your inventory for transfer. As far as which containers are safe, I can't help on that!

Even if a container is safe, you can lose items if you "overload" a container by putting 50+ different items into the same container. The items lost will be whatever you tried to put into the container after the invisible limit. They will immediately disappear instead of being stored in said container. The older items will still be safe in that container, just newer items will erase. Old OG oblivion bug, I think it got fixed with mods. Gotta wait for those. In the meantime, spread out your stuff throughout the containers in your house.

containers and dungons get reseted every few days

So no storage outside of your houses

The game is running on the original engine underneith the graphics so I believe this sill applies. Be careful, any place with npc's they are likely to take some of your consumables from time to time. And some house like Benirus Manor may reset after you completed the related quests for them.
