I was literally just playing old oblivion the other day, this is NOT the same. They removed the noise cue and added a "medium" fall speed which wasn't there before. I had no issue whatsoever in old oblivion with lockpicking but this first adept chest is a massive pain in the ass. Ive never broken so many picks on a single chest before.

If you're trying to hit the button everytime the pin hits top you're doing it wrong, try hitting the pin a few times, you'll see the pin moves slower on some taps, during the slower movement is when you want to set the pin. It's the same in the original version.

Hahaha easy to see who was around when the original was out. Easy system no worries

It is NOT the same as the OG version! They changed the sound file which is making it significantly more annoying.

In the original, there were TWO clicking sounds when you would lift a tumbler. One upon impact with the tumbler, and another click and it hit the top. Now there is only the initial click. I used to love the lock picking mini game and the audio queue was the single most important reason why.

I am doubtful they will fix it but sure hope they do if enough people draw attention to it.

Lvl Up to lvl10 and make the Nocturnal Quest... you dont need to do the Mini Game anymore after that

Oblivion lockpicking was always massively harder than skyrim (of course excluding the skeleton key, exploits, spells etc.)

Its as simple as the minigame having completely different constraints i.e in skyrim even with master locks you get a 'practice' with very gentle touches of the tumblers letting you feel out the lock, oblivion its solely randomised split second timing; was always very hard but i kinda liked it.
This, pretty sure the younger me always used auto lockpick feature.

It's the same as it was in the original game. Just a little more practice and you'll be fine. At least there's a nice sense of small victory when you succeed. It actually feels like you're lock-picking, not just rushing through the game to grab loot

Is it? It has been awhile but I thought you used the mouse to move the pick up to manipulate the tumbler. Here I am using W then when I see the tumbler slow I hit the space bar it seems to work well enough. I have just dealt with easy locks so might be more of a challenge once I hit harder levels. I am hoping there is an open lock spell available for my pure magic build.
It’s the same system but it’s absolutely buggy, anyone claiming to not have broken a pick is lying. The timing is actually off. Sometimes you can go for a minute or more without the slow tumbler activating. At times it will be perfectly in place and the game decides that you didn’t hit it at the right moment.

Stop defending a terrible system simply because you believe it makes you better than someone else that you “understand it”. The system was always a horribly tedious system that wastes time. You never actually liked it then, you don’t like it now, you just like pretending you are better than other people.

Objectively the system in the remake IS buggy. The timing needs to be fixed. Pretending it’s not for fake internet clout is just sad.

no offense but skyrim was for casuals
honestly, i kinda agree. i liked skyrim but always loved oblivion. skyrim dumbed down too many things. though, it did make a bunch of improvements. but it felt like fo4 compared to fo3. lesser of an rpg and more of a first person... sorta rpg?

Yeah, the timing is off compared to the original.

If only there was a spell that made lock picking useless :(

The good news is, there are already 85 Nexus mods for this version of Oblivion.. that's wild!

Yeah they seem off and Shady Sam doesn't seem to restock after I bought him out. I had no trouble with the OG game but this one something seems off for sure
