Interesting theory because I'm on D: drive for both my computers I believe where I saved the game... so this makes sense.
edit: wait, I mean that my D: drive is where my STEAM library is that Oblivion is running on.
i tried copying the steam_autocloud.vdf from oblivion folder on drive D to the save location on drive C and start the game, then voila it will start uploading to cloud, HOWEVER it will save to drive D and will no longer updating the data at D if you make new save data ingame.
and if you delete the steam_autocloud.vdf on drive D, then steam will auto generate the new one there if you start the game, it's a proof that the folder is active and linked to steam but it's linked to cloud only, the game itself linked to drive C
Wait... SO my desktop has a custom documents path because I'm using Dropbox, so it looks like Bethesda (or the frenchies that made this game for them) HARDCODED the path to C:\Users\yourUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\SaveGames
WTF? I thought developers know use the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ environment variables... well at least the game ran pretty well. Hopefully they push a fix for this soon.
Only way I can make it work if I myself copy them there from one machine to the other.
To check open powershell and run:
[Environment]::GetFolderPath("MyDocuments")
That's where Bethesda should be storing save games, not a hard coded path on C.
Steam says the game supports cloud saves, IT DOESN'T. If you have to move the files over constantly to manage them, then it defeats the whole purpose.
Bethesda just needs to fix it... soon hopefully.
I'm just now seeing this. I will give it a try when I can and let you know if it works for me.
Wanted to play on my steam deck after playing for some time on pc(
