I'm surprised by the amount of people who prefered Oblivion to Skyrim.
Personally, I preferred Skyrim by quite a lot but I'm curious what made you prefer Oblivion.

I still prefer Skyrim. I'm enjoying Oblivion. They're not mutually exclusive.

What numbers are you using for that statistic claim?
Morrowind>Skyrim>daggerfall>oblivion>arena
Personally I like both games. I miss the magic crafting system in Oblivion and think it has some more interesting quests.

But honestly I really like both games, skyrim improved on Oblivion in some ways, but not in others.
The setting, the speechcraft skill (for some RP purpose), that altho the MQ will be shoved in your face, you're actually not the main character. Spellcrafting, the not-dumbed-down conjuration and magic schools in general. The actual skill-system with stats you can distribute where you can choose a class ... Something like that probably.
But I like both games, it's just that oblivion has a special place in my heart because of it's unique vibe which i can't even describe. And I do like the faction quests way more. Like the TG in Skyrim seemed like a bunch of greedy b*tches compared to the (at least protecting the peasants and beggars) one in oblivion. And I just never liked the companions. The DB was ok i guess.
I just wished they'd given us some option on the stat-distribution at level-up, since it feels pretty OP compared to OG oblivion with now any and all skills contributing towards level-up.

I think both have mechanics that should be in the other, and sometimes it comes down to which game people played first. I played Oblivion first, and prefer its questines (Dark Brotherhood will forever be my favorite), leveling system (the idea, not how it was implemented), it has better spells and spellmaking, funny radiant ai, etc. But Skyrim has things like smithing, better enchanting, better alchemy, better followers, a (mostly simple) dynamic choose your perks system, a more balanced, albeit not much better difficulty system. Just a few things off the top of my head. Overall, I prefer Skyrim but wish it still had things from Oblivion, but what really separates them for me is Skyrim's modding scene. Anything and everything you could want. Even a whole damn game made using Skyrim as a template called Enderal, which was fun to experience. To each their own
Oblivion was a simplified Morrowind, Skyrim was a simplified Oblivon.

People over time tend to prefer the game where the fun is at, I believe.
Skyrim is much too watered down into a basic action game.

I didn't like OG Oblivion at all. This version is better in multiple ways, i did like Skyrim as well though.

Kinda on topic i'm much more of a Fallout fan than ES.

Skyrim was a little crazy with all the dragons attacking from the sky.
Also, in OG Oblivion you could (tediously) actually decorate your houses with any item you wanted and they would stay in place. From what I've seen so far, the physics in the remaster would make that hard but I'll try anyway. In Skyrim stuff would randomly fly off the shelves when entering an area, quite annoying.

Happens in this version as well, multiple shops have stuff strewn across their floors.

A lot of it comes down to what order you played them in...

Oblivion was much more revolutionary for the time...even more so than Morrowind. The A.I. got an overhaul and they slapped a MUCH bigger map with an intro, after the sewers, that blew people away.

Skyrim didn't add much but QoL improvements and cinematics that were already done before in smaller games.

I guess if Skyrim was you first game..but even Oblivion was amazing by Morrowinds standards...Skyrim was t that much bigger of a project.

Yeah I've seen that :/ will give it a try nonetheless. Maybe just position them differently since it seems to happen when different items interfere with one another. O well ...
I felt the main story and side quest to me were 1000x better in Oblivion. Things felt a lot more unique.

That alone carried Oblivion for me and I actually loved the original leveling system.

While Skyrim, the map was better, the mechanics like kill animation or killing dragons was better, the blacksmithing was amazing but I felt most of the quests were absolutely boring.
In my opinion Oblivion is a better RPG while Skyrim is a better action game.
Depends on which you prefer. Both are better at what they focused on.
