Level Scaling
I don't understand how people say Level scaling is good then those people are also basically using exploits to play the game. So clearly level scaling is bad or you wouldn't need to speed run gates or use invis and so many other things to just cheese combat. I've never played a game with worse combat and its beyond tedious with every fight lasting for way longer than it should and so many sponges. I got to Kvatch and opened the Inner Castle gate and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible game design! This game is ruined by level scaling. Skyrim is literally superior in every way because you can actually play the game instead of repair every fight and hit enemies for 5 minutes and on adept you literally can't die I take barely any damage yet I hit like ♥♥♥♥ even with 95str and 50 blades. No wonder the achievements show such low completion rates because its barely playable. Thank god I'm on game pass! This has to be THE most overrated game I've ever played and its ruined by literally one thing.

So you used exploits to boost your character level but didn't work on your main damage skill level(s) and think it's bad game design and not user error? :laughing_yeti:
I'll give you one thing, Kvatch is definitely something to do right out of the sewers. That courtyard is nearly impossible. There's some operator error going on with the rest of your experience.

The entire rest of the game is easy as hell. Make the most bog standard melee guy and cast resto / alteration / destruction spells everywhere you go to level them up and you'll be downright unstoppable. Go do Knights of the Nine and you'll have a really good set of gear that levels up with you. There is nothing else in the game that is a prohibitively difficult challenge aside from doing Kvatch at a higher level.

Occam's razor would suggest a skill issue.

So much information missing from your post its hard to discern your situation. Most people I know hit Kvatch before they are level 10 so its really not that bad.

And the biggest issue with scaling, at least to me, is that it creates some situations that seem contrary to lore (like common bandits in superior gear).

But, as @StopNakbaDenial and @ UrmtheMad imply, if you just make sure to keep your skills and gear up as you level you will be able to meet the new challenges.

And the game is far from being 'barely playable', but to each his own right.

I dunno.. I never used exploits and I went to kvatch at lvl 12-15 ish on expert. Yeah it as a struggle but I powered through.

I'm not calling it good or bad if you ask me. It's just the way the original played. Actually, the original was even harder when it comes to how it limited what stats you could level up.

I guess it's one of those things that BGS could never please everyone with. If they change the whole leveling system then some people will be pissed because it would be so different than the original, and if they keep it the same way some would not be happy with how messy it can get.

Level scaling is a breeze. No complaints, here.

Combat at higher levels is a PITA unless you are abusing different mechanics, the same was true of skyrim though.
The remaster reduced the health bloat enemies get by a decent amount but its still there.

I am hoping someone recreates some of my favorite mods from the original that reduced health bloat, increased both outgoing and incoming damage then improved enemy AI (makes them try to flank more, keep range & use items more).

Saaame.. I'm enjoying my first playthrough of this. It feels comfortably janky. I love it to death. But I also can't wait to mod the hell out of it one day and take it to the next level. I'm also looking forward to Skyblivion for a total reimagining of this game :D

I'm level 36, playing on adept, using no exploited mechanics, and the longest fights are against those armored dremora in gates. And thats like 20 seconds. Most everything else dies in like 4-8 hits, depending on what it is. And that not counting sneak attacks.

Just did a sneak attack with a dagger and got 8 times damage.

Just finished the main questline on master. There's nearly 80 gates to farm powerful sigil stones from. Alchemy ingredients are everywhere. The mages guild provides money and spells, eventually spellmaking. Some reward items have unattainable enchantments. Some skills need to be focused while others can be ignored.

Study the UESP and game mechanics, or play on Adept to enjoy the story. Choosing to play on master difficulty without mastering game mechanics isn't really a valid complaint.

Also, Bethesda combat mechanics have never really been "good", it's more of a story game than a combat game.
