What in the Bethesda bug....
Last night, I was out by Leyawiin to the east, completing some quests. Had to return that Scamp staff to a cave and go after the renegade Shadowcale. While out there I saw two Gates of Oblivion shining in the darkness. Even captured their map markers, though I wasn't going to deal with it right then. Went to bed IRL, and hopped on again this morning determined to deal with them. Only, they weren't there anymore. Both gates were gone.

Their map markers aren't even on my map anymore. I swear it is the weirdest thing. I had gone into my hideout at Deepscorn Hollow to park it for the night and when I left the ruins, the gates were gone.

Granted, I've only done two things with the main story: I escaped prison, then I destroyed the Oblivion portal at Kvatch because I thought it was in my way. Haven't gone to the Priory; haven't talked to Sean Bean. The majority of my time has been spent doing side quests and wandering around. Anyway, it was interesting to see them there, then see them vanish.

I've had teleporting Oblivion gates too, though mine were buggy because they were not meant to be there at all - they were appearing before I got to Kvatch. So when they disappeared again I was not surprised...

I don't recall this happening in the OG, but that was a long time ago so it may well have!
True. They were the first Oblivion gates I saw since Kvatch so I think it really is just a bug. I actually saw a map marker for an Oblivion gate right outside of Leyawiin but when I went to investigate, nothing was there. The marker appeared on my map but there was nothing. Then I kept going about my business and found those two gates to the southeast. I was even attacked by Scamps near one of them. Knowing that they were probably bugs, I am glad I didn't try to enter them last night. Who knows what backrooms/liminal space I might have ended up in, lol.
