It's okay. Skyrim is still a better game overall but if you like Skyrim you'll probably like this
You can't dual wield but you can cast spells no matter what you have in your hands and because of that it is the better game
Skyrim is the better game, and Oblivion definitely feels dated and simplistic even compared to that, but if you've got the nostalgia from the original release, this remaster is a fun trip down memory lane. Even if you don't but you do like Bethesda games in general, it's worth checking out on Game Pass.

Good writing, nice old school rpg elements and the graphics update is nice.
Combat is a bit of a down grade however.

Sadly a number of game breaking bugs from the original are still present including a memory leak that causes game crashes and loss of saved games.

Unless you have a strong urge for member berries I wouldn't suggest it till those problems get fixed (if they ever do)

It depends on what you're looking for. For transparency, I'm definitely biased in Oblivion's favour but I've grew up with both to hopefully make an honest opinion between both.

If you prefer a "themepark" experience where the game can actively push you to quests and you don't care that much about the RPG aspect or the story, Skyrim will be the better game. If you prefer RPG elements and don't really need your hand held, more late-game variety than stealth archer, and if you care more about story and worldbuilding, Oblivion will be better for you. If you prefer Bethesda games' combat, Skyrim wins this, but Oblivion is still solid overall. If you prefer absolutely breaking games and abusing their systems, Oblivion wins hands down.

Maybe to make things easier If you're familiar with Fallout, you'll like Skyrim more if you prefer Fallout 4 over something like New Vegas, and frankly, you'd be able to tolerate Morrowind if you liked the classic Fallouts. In other words, Skyrim is definitely better if you're more casual and want something easy and conventional to get into; there's absolutely no shame in that, that's the majority of people.

I understand why people prefer Morrowind and Skyrim over Oblivion; I have never seen both, (like Oblivion > Morrowind > Skyrim) as Skyrim is generally seen as the antithesis of Morrowind in its design. Morrowind does its roleplay and storywriting better and is a lot more open-ended, and I've explained why Skyrim may be better.

Note that I avoided getting into two things: Bugs and Graphics. Both games are equally buggy messes in their own unique ways where it's the community's job to fix them. That's just the Bethesda way. Graphics because I still believe Skyrim aged overall very well and /definitely/ more than OG Oblivion's look. Stylised > realistic graphics in a general sense, but I don't find Oblivion's style to be very good. Charming, but not appealing, imo. Oblivion Remake still looks more stellar than a modded original, but UE5 is the sacrifice to make.

I prefer the main story and questlines compared to Skyrim, but Skyrim has better dungeons and general atmosphere. I prefer Oblivion's combat, but thats just taste. Skyrim has mod support, so its 100% better atm.

Short and to the point.
Oblivion = More RPG, more role-playing elements, more fun and difficult.
Skyrim = More direct, more adult, more political, more action-packed, and easier.

@OP
You're just gathering subjective opinions here.
Nobody's right or wrong.

Oblivion puts a lot more emphasis on the journey and exploration and environmental storytelling than Skyrim ever did. Skyrim was mostly designed to be as action packed and ADD seeking as possible with the storytelling and worldbuilding taking a backseat. The dewmer stuff has a bit of it, but even that is all secondary to the dragon battles and shout effects and such, Skyrim is like a neverending story climax that's as exhausting as it is boring, The story itself wasn't written nearly as well as Oblivion was, mainly because Skyrim was cut short exclusively so it could be released on 11-11-11. That's why the Mages Guild was unfinished and the sphere was never explained (and why you become arch mage before actually mastering the ward, and why the ward was so ineffective actually), and why the civil war is so incomplete. They put all the time into Skyrim's graphics instead of the story. Oblivion had cutting edge graphics for the time, but much more effort was put into the story. It feels more complete and logical and far less exhausting compared to Skyrim.

I agree, Skyrim isn't that good, and Oblivion wins hands down, especially with this remaster.
Oblivion is a better game overall.
Skyrim is made for the masses.

unlike Skyrim you dont have to pause the game every time you want to drink a potion, switch a weapon, or change a spell

Skyrim is a better game, Oblivion is a better world that is more interesting.
