Combat is a bit of a down grade however.
Sadly a number of game breaking bugs from the original are still present including a memory leak that causes game crashes and loss of saved games.

Unless you have a strong urge for member berries I wouldn't suggest it till those problems get fixed (if they ever do)
If you prefer a "themepark" experience where the game can actively push you to quests and you don't care that much about the RPG aspect or the story, Skyrim will be the better game. If you prefer RPG elements and don't really need your hand held, more late-game variety than stealth archer, and if you care more about story and worldbuilding, Oblivion will be better for you. If you prefer Bethesda games' combat, Skyrim wins this, but Oblivion is still solid overall. If you prefer absolutely breaking games and abusing their systems, Oblivion wins hands down.
Maybe to make things easier If you're familiar with Fallout, you'll like Skyrim more if you prefer Fallout 4 over something like New Vegas, and frankly, you'd be able to tolerate Morrowind if you liked the classic Fallouts. In other words, Skyrim is definitely better if you're more casual and want something easy and conventional to get into; there's absolutely no shame in that, that's the majority of people.
I understand why people prefer Morrowind and Skyrim over Oblivion; I have never seen both, (like Oblivion > Morrowind > Skyrim) as Skyrim is generally seen as the antithesis of Morrowind in its design. Morrowind does its roleplay and storywriting better and is a lot more open-ended, and I've explained why Skyrim may be better.
Note that I avoided getting into two things: Bugs and Graphics. Both games are equally buggy messes in their own unique ways where it's the community's job to fix them. That's just the Bethesda way. Graphics because I still believe Skyrim aged overall very well and /definitely/ more than OG Oblivion's look. Stylised > realistic graphics in a general sense, but I don't find Oblivion's style to be very good. Charming, but not appealing, imo. Oblivion Remake still looks more stellar than a modded original, but UE5 is the sacrifice to make.
Short and to the point.
Oblivion = More RPG, more role-playing elements, more fun and difficult.
Skyrim = More direct, more adult, more political, more action-packed, and easier.
You're just gathering subjective opinions here.
Nobody's right or wrong.
I agree, Skyrim isn't that good, and Oblivion wins hands down, especially with this remaster.
Oblivion is a better game overall.
Skyrim is made for the masses.
Yours and that of many of us.
