any plans to add this in later builds? I would imagine you would need to build a render engine for just this alone?
Possesion was gimmicky and if possible barly used in both games.
In the first and if i remember it right 2, the best (op) unit spells/skills could only be used from this sure, but if you used it (most importently in battle for the op skills) and the units naturaly clumping together you never saw what was going on. It was awful.
After that it had its uses when it was forced on you gameplay wise like some rare parts in dungeon keeper 2. And i hated this parts. It was so taked on, i never ever used it after, if possible.
And after that. The only cool thing about it was the, to be fair, sometimes great look at your dungeon from a minion perspective, when you had the time for that.
But is or was this the greatest ever or a game seller? No never. Except for Nostaligia of course.
So except for the first person look at your dungeon everything possesion did is better handeld with the strategie control layer they did in dungeons 2.
But if you are looking more for a nostalgia trip with a game that looks like a heavyly modded dungeon keeper 2, you are better of with war of the overworld anyway, i think.
With the possession spell you wander around in first person with limited control and overview from your dungeon, no heal spell for example except you possessed a mage that had basicaly the same spell but even then later you had a better (targetable) ae heal with your dungeon spells.
And dont say you could go out of possession to cast dungeon spells after the possession animations and with the clumping its unlikely you would have found your minion again at least if it was meele.
And i dont remember anymore but wasnt there a limit of what you could cast outside your area? And if, i dont belive there was an exception for the possession spell for casting outside.
The Dungeon lord control was more rts like with a single unit. And hear there was no rally function for minions, they all spawned from summoning circles.
What you mean/want is in general a "hero" unit you can command around and from that point i can understand that possession can give at least some form of satifaction for that craving, but again barely.
The rally flag spell does a better job of what you trying to accomplish with better overview of what is happening.
Possession was taked on and to accomplish exatly what you are looking for even dk would have needed to be much more optimised for the "possession".
But to be fair there is no game that i now of that gives exatly what you are looking for.
Maybe dwarf fortress or a modified version of dwarf fortress adventure mode.
But the closesed i can thing of is http://store.steampowered.com/app/329970/ (KeeperRL) but here there is still no leveling of your main.
At least if you can life with (semi) pauseabil turn based. And of course no first person.
But on the other side i can not think of a way to keep a least some overview of what is happening any other way than maybe reducing the number of controllable/rallyable minions.
Barthas from the dlc campain could give you at least something of what you are looking for.
But anywho, I'll just continue my search for games kinda like DK, Spellforce, and such.
Speaking of Spellforce, if you want to check that out, it's on sale for 90% off for the whole series.
SpellForce Complete 90% off
41 hours left since from this post.
It's kinda obscure, and not sure if you're interested in it's type of gameplay (Think Warcraft 3, but with custom hero builds and a nice view in third person) , but anyone else checking out this thread might like it.
But thanks for trying to think of a game that might interest me, I appriciate it.
Edit: Also no idea how to set up that store page thing the way you did.
And i know spellforce and i hate it (bought the first one when it game out), the twist ending ruined it for me (not that the game was otherwise realy good anyway). And after that i am not even willing to try the secound one.
And so from your discription it sound like i was more or less right with the "hero" unit.
And sorry to say it but dk is not excatly what you are looking for, at least if possession is THE reason you bought/played it. Closesed i know of sure, but not excatly.
But if you are so willing go further, for example i was still at a dungeon similator. And you called out spellforce yourself then there are more/better options.
I will shake my brain maybe i remember some gems for you. later
edit: just open the store page in your browser and copy the address
And to be honest I can't even remember what the ending was for Spellforce 1, but I remember it not being too impressive. I'm still working on the last expantion, but trying to rush through it so I can just get the story through and start trying SpellForce 2, but I like the gameplay itself quite a bit despite the obvious annoyances, like no keybindings for skills/spells, and the third person being clunky and bad in melee combat, but awesome to get that view while on a cliff and checking out the lands, and walking along your units and fighting next to them is great fun.
So yeah you're correct I do want something of a "Hero" unit, but the possession in the DK games is good as well, having that along with dungeon management sounds like a gem to my tastes in games. Dungeons 1 goes along that aspect, but Dungeons 2 looks like it took out the Dark Lord unit/control all together.
Anywho, again thanks for trying to help, and shame SpellForce was ruined for you, with that deal and all. I think what I'm looking for is fairly obscure in gaming that the selection is really small, some ones of the like of what I'm looking for is CivCraft (not the minecraft mod), and Abatron (I'm good with Sci-Fi stuff too), There's also Executive Assault(Also Sci-fi), which... I guess is very slightly like DK in some aspects, but fairly very different. CivCraft is what I'm looking forward to most. Also, Rise and Fall: Civilizations at war had Third Person and leveling too, but the Energy Bar is quite annoying and replaces the health bar in Third Person, which is my main annoyance with that one, but the RTS battles were fun in that as you could board enemy boats, fight on top of the boats and take them over.
Eh, anywho I think I've derailed this topic enough as is, as much as I'd like help in finding something simlair, I think the best in this respect is already stated, I'll just deal with DK, DK2, and Dungeons for my Dungeon Management thirst and "Hero" type gameplay.
