How will multiplayer work?
I just read that there is no skirmish vs an AI dungeon lord so in that vein how exactly will multiplayer work? is is lord vs lord or does the player take over the alliance?

I have to say i am one of the people who avoided Dungeons because i did not like the way it approached the genre but i also have to say that Dungeons 2 is now 2nd on my wishlist after seeing some gameplay streams and reading what the devs have said in response to what has been learned since the 1st game.

I am hugely impressed and hugely excited for release.

Hi there! Thanks for your interest.

So we have multiplayer for up to four people via LAN and Internet in the game. In multiplayer, each dungeon lord has his own dungeon and can freely build it however he likes. All of the player dungeons are connected to one single overworld map. As evilfying parts of the overworld is crucial to getting evilness which you need to upgrade your dungeon, players will soon by battling for control over the overworld, snatching sectors left and right. However, you can also go into the other players dungeon and try to eliminate him completely. If you send your units into an enemy dungeon lord's dungeon, you still control them directly, RTS style, like in the overworld. The defending player, however, uses the dungeon hand controls because he is in his own dungeon. But he can use spells and he can use traps/doors to defend his dungeon. And he can obviously see all of his dungeon while the attacking player only sees what his units see. Both players using different controls leads to some very interesting matches. It works best in domination and king of the hill mode. Deathmatch tends to take a long while because it is very hard to completely destroy your opponent. We are still tweaking that though.

Hope this answers your question. I am sure we will do a multiplayer twitch stream before launch though.

Many greetings,#
Chris

shadow i am sold 10x over. It is clear to me while War for the Overworld was trying to remake DK you guys are trying to revolutionise the concept. I cannot wait for this thank you for your time!

Multiplayer Twitch? Sounds cool.
Having one game mode that takes a long time ot win like deathmatch is fine shadow (imo) if the games are fast in the other game modes... having one to counteract that is fine. Please don't change the awesome game mechanic or make traps useless or whatever you might be thinking to make deathmatch faster! :)

I think War is right, don't go with the assumption EVERYONE wants quick games, there is nothing wrong with having some modes that last longer than others!

King of the Hill and Domination are definitely shorter and of course you can make any game mode shorter and longer by setting winning and starting conditions, etc. And I wont opt to change crucial things just to make deathmatch quicker. But my idea is that every game mode should feel fun. And if matches drag on endlessly that might turn out not to be fun. But I think we will do a lot of tweaking based on feedback after release as well so that might not be a huge problem. Also, the host can save and load multiplayer games at any time.

Hi Chris

So what you are saying is there is no skirmish vs an AI dungeon lord...

Are there any plans for this as it would be outstanding.

can u team play with a friend vs AI?
Skybreaker Oct 23, 2015 @ 12:26am
Hi Rainoa.
This is not possible, but you can e.g. team up with a friend of yours and compete against two other human opponents in e.g. Team Deathmatch.

While the post lasts, i was wondering, are you ever going to make an Alliance Vs Lord gamemode? One player controls alliance and has a new way of playing it with units (a money timer and then money for units etc) And whoever kills Hero Boss (DungeonLord Replacement) first / Hero Boss defeats all Dungeron Lords Wins?]

Overworld houses can be upgraded with money, adding more space for heroes, can re-build a house, making it into a tavern and can be built with some 100 gold and with 3 'Builder Units' and they must be escorted to the only building space for the Tavern (Near dungeon entrance, it on timer, spawns normal units like spearmen) and then extra buildings (Defence towers, certain restrictions around per tavern) and etc. Im going to put a full post on how this could work, ok?

that could be kinda fun playing as alliance vs evil lol just to mix it up but not really fan of pvp myself so i would rather see ai options in the mix with difficulty options

maybe a DLC idea
