Elephant in the room
So this game is going to be multiplayer focused. Ok, no real issue with that I suppose. But there is one problem, one big problem that has been present since... well since FROM started making games at all.

One big problem with multiplayer specifically.

*AHEM*

..... so about the lag. You're gonna fix that, right? RIGHT??

Because I'd imagine the game would bomb pretty hard if everyone is lagging 0.5-2 seconds behind (or worse) like every previous game.

Assuming EAC gets yeeted, yeah. I mean it's P2P, you can't do much more than that.

Dedicated servers. You can do that. I know Bandai is allergic to the concept but for the sake of the game not bombing I hope they put some investment into a FROM games multiplayer for once.

Yeah this is gonna bomb hard if they don't fix that problem.

ER is deceptive as even if you think there is no lag it's still there even if it's fractions of a second. I can't count the times i tried to parry and the boss phased through me with no damage but also no parry. I just gave up trying after a while.

Eh, good P2P is also possible, e.g. Warframe does it quite well from my experience. Dedicated servers would be nice of course, but they can totally make a good product without them

Fingers crossed that they address the issue and not just copy-and-paste the ER recode, that just won’t work…

Its possible but rare. And has any FROMsoft game ever done "good P2P"? We all know the answer to that.

If the game doesn't get dedicated servers, or heck even a ping filter, its going to be dead a month after release.

indeed, i thought exactly the same. if there is ONE thing from soft sucks with, its the multiplayer connection. so i really wish the best of lucks to whoever wants to play this garbage lol.

Now they can no longer claim that "multiplayer was never their focus and Souls games are single player experiences with online features" which were all poorly implemented and barely worked, so much has apperently been cut in ds1, ds2 , ds3 and ER they didn't even try anymore with covenants and meaningful multiplayer features/ long term goals.

After the backdoor issue that took them way too long to even acknowledge and then fix by taking ALL souls games offline. I don't see them succeeding in a "co op only" rouge lite with a sort of battle royale storm mechanic.

Depends on who you ask, if it fits the narrative, especially when the games were taken offline. Some fanboys defended it as "multiplayer is bad but it was never their focus and co op is only a bonus". Now that they actually focus on co op they hopefully fix the phantom hits/ desync issues and horrible system of "favour the shooter" in a precise input game.

That was the most silly way of dealing with lag. So if you hit someone that is already 5 meters away from you but on your screen you are closer it's a what is called "favour the shooter" in games. Which isn't an issue in actual shooters because of the ping limiters and dedicated servers that minimize the issue. but with p2p and no region filter, ping based matchmaking it just favours people with horrible connections.

It's time to From Software finally add continental matchmaking. But ER has client side hit detection, the lag shouldn't be a problem in most cases.

There is no PvP so P2P might be enough. Hopefully they won't make it Japan/no Japan cross-region again.

Lag is absolutely an issue for co-op PvE. Join someone as a cooperator and try to parry a boss. It's just not possible.
