New Classes
Do I need to start a new game when I install a custom class? I've never done it before, but I inserted a few new characters into my DarkestDungeon folder and I've played about 5-6 dungeons... but no sign of my new heroes (from the Nexus).

If you install a custom class you don't need to start all over again. Just keep on playing. There are something like 15 hero classes in the game and they each have an equal chance of appearing at the stage coach. Every hero that you add is one more hero which means less chance of a particular hero turning up (because there's more to choose from).

iirc you need to edit a file to add the new classes to the list of creatable classes, but I've skipped out on several months of updates so that might have changed.

I found another thread that said the new Radiant update changed the game enough that most custom classes stopped working. They gave a line of code to add to the class info file, which I did, and they started to appear. Hopefully people out there will update their custom work so that it's compatible with the new game version. That'll make it easier for people.

Near the end of a heroes .info files you should see this info:

generation: .is_generation_enabled true .number_of_positive_quirks_min 1 .number_of_positive_quirks_max 2 .number_of_negative_quirks_min 1 .number_of_negative_quirks_max 2 .number_of_class_specific_camping_skills 2 .number_of_shared_camping_skills 1 .number_of_random_combat_skills 4 .number_of_cards_in_deck 5 .card_chance 1.0

The final line will not be in the classes you downloaded - so you need to add it.

Most modders will most likely not be updating the Nexus at this time (some might). Currently we are waiting for steam workshop to release - which is next on red hooks release agenda.

The Workshop will make updating and installing much easier for everyone - DD's modding community are hoping for that release to be in the next month or so.

@scorpiovaeden, quick question, where do we paste the effects now as it seems that the darkest.effects file has been removed from the script folder. do we need to create a file for each class that uses effects now ?

There is now an effects folder in the darkest dungeon folder. This comment explains how:

Red Hook made it so game can read multiple .effects files now, so no need to override anything.
Simply go to “effects” folder, create a new file called “name_of_your_class_mod.effect.darkest”,
open it in any text editor and copy/paste all lines starting with “effect:” that come with the new class. Don’t forget to run “localization.bat” in “localization” folder after copy/pasting all the files, this updates the game strings, otherwise you will get blue gibberish text.

I have been trying to get the mod class Assassin to work all day I have done everything that was supposed to be done to install it. Then I came here and found there was a line in the .info file for the assassin I needed to add, .number_of_cards_in_deck 5 .card_chance 1.0. I did that but I have yet to see the assassin show up in game at all. I am on week 13 and nothing. Is there something else that must be done that I am missing?

Let's see. The assassin's a bit old. Do they also have the line ".is_generation_enabled true "? A lot of older mods won't have that and need to have it added in as well. Heroes didn't require that line to appear 'til a month or two ago.

Yes it does, I used the original then updated it with the modified assassin class mod that had the updated .info file stuff in it except for the number of cards in deck line which i added. but alas another updated hit today, so I am sure something else just broke and I will have to dig some more lol.

@Blagin: Wait... this line, ".is_generation_enabled true." Where is that supposed to go? I found a class I want to use and I don't think it has that.

Nevermind, I found it. Just looked in some of the other class info files. Dur.
