Same thing. Game is crashing when I'm trying to start it.

So I had the issue and I got around it by running it without Steam. They have a version in my files called D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\_windowsnosteam. Find what counterpart you have and run the nosteam .exe and it should work. No achievements though.

I think it might have something to do with how I have it in my D: drive instead of C: Can anyone verify?

Ever since the last update I can't start the game either....I get a darkest..exe failure to launch notice and it won't even load the initial start screens!

I have a saved game the is 100+ weeks deep! Any help?

I'm having this problem as well. Just purchased game for the first time. Initially installed it on D:, when I tried to launch I would see black screen then Windows crash dialog. Tried repeatedly, tried rebooting. On restart now I get no crash dialog or black screen, but clicking Play does nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled on C: to see if it was a drive location issue, but behavior same as before.

System is a Win 10, recent build ROG Hero VIII MB, i7-6700K, dual GTX 980ti, ROG PG278Q monitor. Nvidia drivers are the latest 362.00 released 3/1/2016. Haven't had issues with other games.

I fixed my issue by following:

https://www.reddit.com/r/darkestdungeon/comments/41yh8z/darkest_dungeon_hates_my_sonic_suite_2_app/

My ROG MB came with this Sonic Suite audio app. I right-clicked the icon in my app bar and exited the app, and now Darkest Dungeon runs perfectly fine. There are surely a bunch of ROG gamers out there, I see from above link you already have a ticket open to fix this. Consider this a +1 for that.

Hi guys,
I see this is an old thread but maybe it could help someone still, or in the future (o future person you, remember me with kindness)
I did the same thing as Shaper in the above post - I disabled the audio suite that comes with the motherboard. Mine was MSI Krait, not Asus ROG, but the principle seems to be the same, Darkest Dungeon hates mobo audio apps with passion.

Hope this helps

I found a way to run it through Steam by disabling Steam Client Services in the background processes as detailed in the support page.

This fix also worked for my game Chronicles of Mystara.

Same problem here. All of a sudden this week it stopped working. Deinstall and reinstall did not help. moved it from D: to C: to no avail. Finally followed the idea about to exit out of my laptop's audio manager and it runs fine......

Darkest Dungeon ~> Properties ~> Local Files ~> Verify Integrity of game files
