2 year old windows 8 laptop, nothing special, but nothing terrible either. This is what I have found:
In general, if either disk or cpu is over about 20%, it's not worth playing. I googled the typical sort of thing about crummy pc/windows performance, and shut off a few background services that are known to be hogs.
Sometimes I just have to let the OS do whatever it's going to do and not start until it's settled down...
Thanks! My computer is also not one of the bests but it is still functional. I shall try this ASAP.
EDIT: It appears that my CPU usage is pretty low before starting DD, but changes periodically to over 15% for one tick but later goes back down to 1%. Darkest dungeon seems to be running a bit more smoothly with faster running times but the lag is still too noticable to be able to do anything in the Hamlet. All that I know is that my cpu usage is not going past 20% for the majority of the time.
Well my problem consists of extreme game-braking lag especially noticable within the Hamlet. It is so slow that it is impossible to get stuff done within the game. You should ask somone about that freezing issue, never seemed to happen to me :/
Yes and no, I would try to start the game in both modes with settings turned down almost completely but that did not seem to fix the everlasting problem. This type of lag just makes it so that you cannot do anything in town or out in the field. HOWEVER, I have found out that older saves from older builds are slower than up-to-date saves when testing out how a small save would do against the lag.
Name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000

I also had the lag problem. My game got to the point playing was miserable(sp? who cares). It has always had some amout. but like you, these last 3 updates.
I cant remember/find who posted it. someone else deserves credit and a big thanks from me. they suggested shutting down a,
"??SYNC??" program. my verson of the sync was diffrent. after i shut my program down, my game went back to, what I have to say is an acceptable (finally at least playable) level of lag.
I hope this helps a lot of people.
Do you find reason why game lags?
Ur comment is from recent days, so i thinking u could answer me. I am asking bcs i have the same problem as you.
You must turn off overlay in Steam and in Radeon Adrenalin.
In Steam go Settings - In game - and turn off all switches about overlay.
In Radeon Software go Settings (Gear) - Settings (in menu) - Common and turn off all switches about overlay too.
That works for me - no more FPS drops.
