Irritating Graphics Glitch: White Squares
When adventuring in the larger Ruins dungeons and in the Wield, Cove and the Warrens certain animations fail to show and instead there’s just a white square. When my heroes go to open a chest, check a sack, read something, deactivate a trap, or suffer a test of resolve there will be a white square or rectangle where the animation should have been. Occasionally the white squares even replace background art, like alters or tents, or boss animations (the Swine Kings chop attack, the entire Sunken Crew). It usually doesn’t make the game unplayable, but it’s as annoying as hell, breaks the immersion, and takes away from the experience. I’ve checked the general fix list and I don’t know what the problem is.

For what it's worth the white squares didn't show up in the early Ruins dungeons and I didn't really notice it until I visited the Cove. It's also worse in the Cove then the other dungeons.

Generally speaking that issue is due ot older video drivers or an overlay problem

Or try reverifying your game cache

I experience this as well. I updated my drivers but it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.

I've noticed that the squares usually start showing up after a certain number of runs into different dungeons. Not sure if you've seen similar pattern.
Amestria_Amestria Feb 6, 2016 @ 12:19am
It's not really a pattern, but the squares are most frequent in the Cove, Wield, and Warrens, and rarely happen in the Ruins. Though there are exceptions. I played a two camping Cove map and not a single one showed up. But earlier I played the second battle against the Sunken Crew and the boss was completely whited out and that has yet to happen in any of the other dungeons.
Re-verifying the game cache seems to decrease its severity, but it keeps coming back.

It usually involves Affliction animations, trap disarming, and curio interactions. Sometimes it involves obstacles, unactivated curios, and boss attacks (the Swine King, principally). On one occasion it involved a whole boss - the Sunken Crew - and on another occasion the victory announcement box. It's very annoying as the game's artwork is one of its strongest points and this lowers the enjoyment.

Sometimes DD doesnt use the GPU and unly runs via your intel HD graphics.
Go to NVIDIA settings and change the mode for DD to high performance nvidia processor.
This will get rid of the issue.
I don't have an NVIDIA graphics card so that won't work.
Sir Francis Sep 17, 2016 @ 5:16pm
Well, just about any card will do, problem remains the same.

Youll need a proper video card, intel integrated BS will just not work, sorry :(
Amestria_Amestria Oct 17, 2016 @ 1:35am
Okay, which video cards work best?
rush_247 Oct 9, 2017 @ 12:12pm
Got this problem too, why is a 2dish game so demanding? Is it just badly optimized?

Seems to go away after disabling blur, fullscreen, camera tilt and the overlay but comes back if I'm using some mod added characters, graphical changes (xbox buttons) etc.

EDIT: Still occuring without mods, no permanent fix.

I just started having this problem. I've been playing this game for about a year now without this problem previously. I think it has to do with applying the latest nvidia driver update - version 387.92 that came out on October 8, 2017.

Not sure what to do about this, its frustrating and makes the game unplayable. Any ideas?
