Old Road loading screen freeze

So, I just bought the game and started up the campaign pretty normal, cutscene functions all fine and then you get to the first loading screen, screen 'freezes' while the game loads up (Footsteps, buttons and all work, just the screen hasn't loaded.)
Any solutions?

If you haven't disabled steam overlay then I suspect your game is screwed in some manner, disabling the screen overlay worked for me

Right click on Darkest Dungeon, click 'Properties' then if you look it'll say 'Enable Steam Overlay while in-game'

Ruins some fun but it makes the game work
