Shambler's Altar

So I found this curio called the Shambler's Alter. I have no clue what it does and can find literally no info on it! The text of the Altar says "The sacrifice of fire is the gate to ruin! Place a torch if you grave the void!" Anyone have any info on this as I am to terrified to interact with it!

It snuffs out your torch and spawns the Shambler, he is kind of a boss/mini-boss. I don't remember what he does, he isn't very hard. Gives you a trinket from the Ancestor set.

I was not so wise. Placing a torch upon the alter I summoned a terrible Horror upon my party! The light went out, and a terrible CREATURE emerged -and we were forced to fight for our lives! The beast was as vicious as any of the so called "bosses" of these ruins. After a terrible battle the THING was defeated and we escaped with our lives, as well as an odd TREASURE the thing left behind - a TRINKET of some power....

Those bosses can be hard, and cause a lot of stress. However when you kill them you get some awesome items. Like +50% chance to disarm traps or scout. With them you can get 100% scouting and 100% disarm.

None of the trinkets are very good. I've seen 5 of them now and I would say that they are equivalent to a green trinket.

That thing was awful. I barely made it out alive. Two of my party members died from heart attacks though. Would not dare go there again.

PSA - In case you were not aware, it can show up as a hallway encounter too.

AFAIK this only happens when you have 0 light.

What if you collect all of them? Maybe they transform into one super good trinket?

On a sort of related note, I got an Ancestor's trinket without fighting him. 80 light, warrens on veteran difficulty, used holy water on a bone pile. It was the bullet trinket which is the only halfway decent one i've seen so far.

Ha! I fell for that one too, it was at the end of my third run on the new save, the team was doing just great, I felt I could afford the risk of something bad happening, like the light going out or my chars getting a bit of stress. I did not expect the Shambler. Nope! My crusader made it out alive, more or less, the rest are rotting in the halls right now. Oh well, what´s a bit of death, my mausoleums starting to look interesting!

I tried it out and yes it snuffs out the torches and spawns a mini boss. Fun times! At the end it gives you some money and a red trinket, so its basically risk reward kinda thing, you probably want to do it if your run is going good and avoid if you already are half dead.

That thing kicked my ass -- had to retreat which then ended the dungeon run since my team was so worn down.

I was able to fight ti immediatly, it was the first encounter I had. Its HP is high, but not too high. gave me a 30% stress resist item. yes pls.

Anyone know what happens when you touch it, but don't put a torch in?
