Hulking Swinetaur
...or whatever it's called.

What exactly is the point of the move "Trot Retreat"? I see it used all the time even when the Swinetaur is the last monster alive or cannot possibly move any further back in the lineup. Is it supposed to deal some kind of damage as well? I always see a dodge, every time without fail.

It's a shame because this useless move basically makes the Swinetaur an easy kill. If it used the AoE attack more, it would be one of the most awesome enemies in the game.

Good point. Since It spams this skill it could be somewhat dangerous... Whell its very much like confusion spores of Giant. 2 damage and minor shuffle? Against Leper may be...

It's because certain enemies are programmed to prioritize moving to the backline because they don't have any abilities/attacks that work in the first two spots.

They just need a new ability that works when they're at the front and they can't move further back.

Fungal Artillery do the same thing with Escape Spores.

How's called his spear step when he still moves backwards? Thought he can do this from first slot. Whell at least this skill should become nasty as Escape spores with its blight.

If you are seeing it being used while its in the back row, you probably have some kind of bug. It uses nastier attacks when its in the back, and part of the strategy for fighting it is to kill everything else first if possible, much like pulling the skeleton arbalests to the front line.

A lot of the game monsters have position specific attacks, much like your own characters.

If you are not able to, you pay severe consequences and considering RNG sometimes, I'm perfectly fine with an easy kill every now and then.

Whell its good for tactics and all but hulking mass of hp shouldnt be defenceless once all other mobs with combine hp less then half of those are dead.
Ghoul is good sample of big monster. He has large HP, but you still whant neutralise it first if not with damage but with stun at least.

It has an ability that can hit your entire party but it can only use it from the back row.

Obviously it shouldn't be using it when it's alone or already in the back though.

Swinetaur wants to charge you from the back, then trot retreat to line up his next impale. He has a 3rd skill he should be defaulting to when there is no back row, but we'll take a look and see why he isn't preferring that. Sometimes, the RNG messes up the baddies too :)

This is old but he has the default AI script meaning he uses the move listed first 75% of the time (in this case, it depends on the number of moves), and the other one 25%. Trot retreat is listed first and it has no damage and almost no accuracy. (the AoE charge is the first of the back row moves).

You can fix this by making Crunching Backhand monsters_size_skill min 0 max 2, then he only uses it when alone (use specific_skill paramater for his other 3 moves). Or just make trot retreat have the same stats as Crunching Backhand, whichever.

Swinetaur sounds cool

Want to report in my gameplay that Swinetaurs use the ability "'Trot Retreat'' pretty often even if it is the only left creature in the enemy team, which leaves him helpless against my dudes. And is the same ability always suppose to miss , even against my lowest dodge heroes? Otherwise the game is freaking awesome and the Warrens is the creepiest place for me so far with all the mutated/cursed swine-folk .. Cheerio!
