is there anyway to make my characters get less stressed?
all my characters stress bar goes full after like 2 rooms, is there anyway to make it so they dont get stressed so quickly? also curing my characters stress costs alot and then after 1 trip i have to cure it again and again, half the time the characters stress wont even go down after sending them to 1 of the taverns.

That's impressive you manage to get full stress after just two rooms. Not sure how you did that but I'll offer some anti-stress tips anyways. Keep your light up, don't click on environment objects that you don't know how to safely interact with, use ranged attacks to kill those goblet throwing a-holes as soon as you can.

Stun and relocate, don't let them hit you in the first place and you won't have to cure any stress to begin with. After stunning the stress casters or whatever enemy you feel the most dangerous, work on whittling them down. Mind the stun resistance proc. Don't be dazzled by AoEs, only use them when hurting several enemies a little can be beneficial for you, especially on finishing already wounded enemies.

Do. Not. Rely. On. Heals. Doing so will dry your bank account, keep you from upgrading your heroes and ultimately drive you into a dead end. Most characters have a monostun, use it.

1 - Have a jester in your party with the "- 3 stress for everyone" skill

2 - Make sure you always have torches that are lit, and food available (as well as one or two shovels)

3 - Kill the monsters that deal stress damage first (usually they're in the back)

4 - Upgrade your tavern/church/sanitarium to be more efficient and to delete stress-inducing quirks

5 - Look up all the possible skills to reduce stress (Leper, Crusader, vestal)

How far into the game are you? At later stages stress becomes much less of a problem. Early on especially at level 0 stress can be a problem.

It may sound crazy but, after you've gotten a party to level 1-2 try torchless runs. Getting more crits improves sanity and it's very easy to offset the sanity loss without a torch with regular crits in the dark. At higher levels its very possible to leave dark runs with 0 stress with the proper team comps, even if you started the dungeon with some stress.

i still havent beaten the apprentice necromancer, im pretty much still at the beginning, im on week 26 and my characters keep getting stressed and i cant seem to even save up money cuz i keep having to destress my characters, i only 3 level 2 characters and there both at max stress atm and i only have a little under 2000 gold, im at a dead end right now, im really losing all motivation to play this game, i really thought i would like it but i just feel like im doing something wrong in the game

Just send an army of new recruits into a dungeon, and then fire them to avoid paying for their medical care. That way you'll get some money and you'll be able to focus on your best soldiers

It's hard to say what the problem is without seeing how you play. Stress shouldn't be so bad that you end up in your current situation though. There are several people playing this game that have a firm grasp of the games mechanics. Baertaffy is doing a playthrough and doing quite well, if you have the time I'd recommend you watching a few of the episodes from his series. Of the ones I've seen he's doing the best.

In the meantime this is good advice:

I wish you luck and I hope you stick with it, it's a very rewarding game after you're able to understand it.

Make sure you choose a quest that is suitable for the heroes level and you come prepared for the worst. Don't forget shovels in your provisions. If the light meter goes below 50% stress will begin to rise rapidly. If your heroes are outclassed by their opponents, that can significantly increase stress. There's also ways to reduce your heroes stress while camping so that you can make it through longer quests.

I recommend taking a look at my survival guide for tips and tricks about stress and much more. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=389657313

If you're doing that then you're likely ignoring the 2 back stress monsters. You have to balance between killing the 'hp' montsers and the stress ones. You can mitigate some stress monsters by puling them to the front where they dont use their stress attacks as much. Otherwise you'll need to either hit the back, or concentrate fire on the front row monsters to push the back mobs forward.

I like to start new games and play rather badly on purpose to see what happens.

I learned that in the early game, you don't need to worry about stress, hero health, quirks, or upgrading any heroes or buildings at all.

You only need to do two things:

1) When you first get to town, upgrade your stage coach so you get 4 people each week.
2) Leave dungeons before everyone dies so you keep the loot you find.

I'm about to do a run where I don't even give these guys food or shovels. I think it'll be my most successful start yet!

EDIT: I got my first two guys killed on the tutorial mission, and learned:

1) was still able to upgrade the coach to to 4 people each week when I got to town
2) there were 4 people available for hire, rather than the initial 2.

Don't bring torches either, it's far more effective to just trash those heroes and start a fresh run with new recruits each week. I'm in week 18 and have over 60k in gold and still have no heroes at lvl 1.

It's actually quite fun. I've been upgrading my buildings all while not worrying about how stressed my heroes become.

Use Shovels!!
Daemonjax Feb 13, 2015 @ 12:41pm
It's actually challenging to make it through to completion without spending anything on your heroes AT ALL.

It really should cost gold hire new heroes... and the rewards (gold, paintings, etc.) should be shifted more heavily to the successful completion of the mission. I'd like to find more stuff during the mission that isn't wealth (like bandages, food, torches, trinkets).

Also, I'd like to see the removal of the starting 5000 gold from the tutorial mission. It's unnecessary.

I shouldn't be able to amass wealth and build up the town by playing badly.
