Hunger Event RNG and Camping
So I camped, Feasted, and 2 rooms later I have a hunger popup. 2 Rooms after that, another hunger popup.

2 Things:

1. Does eating at camp affect the hunger events? Because IMO if you just feasted, you shouldn't be getting a hunger event.

2. Is this just pure RNG to get two hunger events very close to one another? Does passing / failing a hunger event affect the next probability of one?

At the moment, and this is one of the dumbest mechanics in the game so far, but every step you take has a chance to trigger the Hunger popup.

One time I had a hunger prompt and I ate(last of my food), and the next room, first step I take I get a hunger prompt.

I promptly ragequit and reloaded my save files(I've started getting into the habit of saving files before I enter a dungeon -- sometimes the RNG is too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unfair and it's literally unplayable as a game)

Some things, like food, shouldn't be RNG at all, period. But, i'm sure things will get more logical as the beta progresses.

ya, food should be based on something like amount of rooms entered, not random

same happens with torches........is it only me or sometimes the torch meter depletes very fast?

I totally agree. Random hunger just makes no sense at all. A hunger meter would be both more logical and more realistic. After all a person can tell if they're hungry or not. A whole team of adventuerers does not suddenly stop and realize that if they don't eat NOW they'll collectively get screwed over.

In fact it's stupid that if you have 1/2/3 food you can't have some of your party memembers eat and leave on guy to starve. I mean wtf?

so far I noticed that you can actually reduce the number of food you need for the starve/camp event.....for each "-100% food consumed" buff in a hero you will need 1/4 less food (3 food for the starve / 6 food for full camp if you have 1 hero with the buff).

But yeah, I agree with the point, Hunger is so random and weird, sometimes I just used a couple of food to heal a char and 1 step ahead the Eat event pops

Well that's interesting. Still it does require a whole trinket slot though. Personally I think the 150-300 gold saved is not worth taking up a slot for something that could give you +20% dmg and +5% crit etc. But if you don't have good trinkets and have a -100% food trinket, it's worth considering.

Torch depletion is never random.
Unexplored steps deplete light faster than explored steps, and certain actions will deplete light (such as rolling that result while reading).

I dunno, can they make something in the game not RNG? lol.

I have to wholehartedly agree, that it is clearly illogical and I really hope it's a placeholder mechanic for now and they add some logic to it.

I've had many hunger procs in a small dungeon and would have starved to freaking death if i didn't bail. Took 8 food with me (my standard for short dungeons) and immediately was hungry many times, ruined it completely.

Food shouldn't be RNG.

I agree that the food mechanic needs to be fixed/tweaked. I ate from a hunger event, and literally 2 tiles later i entered a room and camped to try and relieve some stress. And you are still forced to feed the party something or suffer the penalty. If i literally just ate 5 seconds ago, and camped to try and heal and stress heal, i should NOT have to eat again that soon. There is a fine line between something being challenging (like being able to actually prepare for hunger with a risk/reward based on the size of the dungeon) and a mechanic added to seem like a challenge but is really just a crutch, and pushing RNG too hard for too many mechanics like this one is pushing towards a crutch.

Without digging into the code, I'd guess hunger has a chance of 'procing' every 8 to 20 steps explored (4 steps between rooms). I've gotten into the habit of almost always taking too much food since about 1/5 of the time it seems I manage to proc hungry every two rooms.

Number of fights doesn't seem to have any effect on hunger either. I've had medium dungeons where it was a blood bath from start to finish and only consumed 12 food.

I see this subject recurring up at almost every build and have to agree: The RNG on this is very severe (more or less equal to dodging repeatedly).

Sure, there are some characters that eat more, or perhaps are hungry faster but then they should be individually opted to eat more instead of having the whole group 'forget' they just feasted at the camp, had a good nap and 4 till 8 steps later have to have their breakfast. Then 4 steps later need to have their lunch (while they haven't even passed 1 minute between) OH WAIT you want dinner? What about dessert on top of it?

But mainly, the RNG should be reduced and made into a stat or something.
Yes. Hunger mechanic is bafflingly bizzare and needs to be changed. Hunger should be a known value.

That "obsessed with food" quirk is actually one of the worse negative quirks to have, imo.
