honestly, I never had trouble getting to any of the bosses on any of the difficulties. I'm able to explore every room and hallway before I even kill the boss, majority of the time.
While getting bad RNG happens, a large part of the game is being able to deal and recuperate from these bad situations. After the third room getting beat down like that maybe you should have camped to get your health back up and buff your accuracy and lower stress.
Also while AOE attacks are powerful they won't just win the game for you. You need to make good use of stun skill and know which enemy in any given group is the biggest threat to you and try to shut them down each round.
Have two crossbow guys in the back? Take out the two weaker skeletons in the front with direct damage attcks in the first round. This makes the crossbow guys essentially useless since now they can only jab at you. Have one of those female occultists in that back? Try to stun lock or use backrow attcks to eliminate her fast.
While it seems like you can get deatroyed by RNG at any moment, the fact is that your decisions leading up and following bad rolls determine how well you will do more than luck will.
Now having said all that, it is true that sometimes you can just get royally screwed and watch your party disintergrate without you having done anything wrong. These moments are few and far between however.
I hope this advice helps you fight back the darkness. :)
As far as skill upgrading goes, I didn't have any upgraded, so maybe that will be the thing that makes the difference. Hopefully. And hopefully I don't upgrade a characters skills just to have them bite it.
I canmped and used resist stress buffs like the Crusaders "Unshakeable Leader". And the Vestal's "Bless" for +10 ACC and Dodge on my Crusader.
On the fight I used the Crusader to 1 shot the minions while the rest focus fires on the Necromancer or healing. That's all I did.
