Darkest Dungeon®

Macintosh Model Compatibility List
When I first saw an article listing that there was a Mac version of this, I leapt onto Steam to see what the hardware requisites were, to see if I could play it. Seeing a few videos of the game in action had me definitely interested. So I logged onto Steam, the list of hardware was easily matched, and there was this one, tiny thing. OpenGL version 3.3 required. Supposedly if you open the Mac Steam client, go to Help, and select System Information, it'll tell you what version of OpenGL you're running.

Long story short, I checked and Steam says I'm running OpenGL 2.1. Huh. Out of curiousity, though, I checked Apple's OpenGL version table based on model and OS version, and it says I'm running 4.1. Now I'm in a quandry. Drop the $20 on the Early Release or not, based on what Steam says versus what Apple says. So I did. And the game runs perfectly.

Now obviously with an Early Release, there's any number of factors, but I thought perhaps a list of people who've used the game, on specific models of machines, would at least make things easier on people who are having their OpenGL versions misreported like mine was. And maybe it will help Red Hook, too, since they're not going to have every variation of machine in the world to test against. So let's make a list of what models we've tried, and how it went...

Works:

2011 13" Macbook Air, i5, 4GB RAM, Intel 3000HD, 10.9.5
2012 Mac Mini, 2.5Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, Intel 4000HD, OS X 10.10.2
2012 MacBook Pro, 2.5Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, Intel 4000HD, OS X 10.10.2
2013 iMac 27", CPU unknown, RAM unknown, NVIDIA Geforce GT 7xxM, OS X unknown
2014 MacBook Pro, CPU unknown, RAM unknown, Intel Iris GPU, OS X unknown

*Bump*
It says OpenGL 2.1 for me too in Steam. I've got a 2014 macbook pro, should be openGl 4.1 or something. Intel Iris graphics. I'm holding off a while longer.

The steam tool is the easiest way for most people to get the OpenGL version withiut relying on a 3rd party tool. I found a few for windows but they were a bit cludgy to use.

I know on Macs and Linux there are Better built in tools. It could be that Steam is reading the Mac drivers incorrectly?

I'll see if the devs can add that info into the sticky. Do you know how to get that information on Macs?

I'm having the exact same quandary. I decided to ignore Steam's tools and try to poke around myself to see what versioning I could find listed. If I use this command in a terminal:

glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version"

The output is this:

2.1 NVIDIA-10.2.1 310.41.15f01

So my I imagine that where Steam's tools get that information from is the same place I'm getting that information from, but I have no idea where else to look. I'm on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) 2.7GHz i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB running 10.10.2. By all accounts I should be able to play the game. Especially considering the OP, but does anyone want to try to replicate my results?

If it works for someone else getting the same output from the command above I'll bite the bullet and trust that it's probably pretty solid.

As of 2/14/15, this table from Apple Support shows platform/hardware variations using OS X Mavericks or Yosemite (10.9/10.10) and the OpenGL levels they support:

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202823

Per that table, there's no Mac listed since around 2007 that isn't on OpenGL 3.3 or later, so long as they're running either of the last two OS X versions. MajicWalrus' MacBook Pro Retina listed above is firmly in the OpenGL 4.1 grouping in the table, as is loppantorkel's later model Iris MBP. Whether tha means they'll run Darkest Dungeon or not? I can't say. I can only say my Mac Mini is far lower specced than your machines, and it runs great *on mine*.

I'mma risk it.
It works fine on my mac. The fans have to work a bit though.
Runs great on my iMac 27" from late 2013.

I have a mid 2012 MBP
2.5 GHZ Intel Core i5
4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
And my fans work hard too, the game isn't too graphically intensive, I've played Batman Arkham City before with no issues, but this game does get some audio hick ups during the narrators schpiels sometimes anyone else?

Thanks for adding to the "works" list, folks. This is what I was hoping for, since reliance on the Steam System Information about what OpenGL is on the system is flawed and might prevent people from buying this game when it's completely usable. I can't speak for fan noise from my Mac Mini since I don't hear any, but I know how it is with MBP fans, when you're sitting with them right in front of you, whereas my system is 6 feet away. I've added the above systems to the Works list, but if you can fill out the blanks in the system descriptions, that would be great.
Thanks in advance!

Luchador138's machine is specced identically to my Mac Mini, so I'm not surprised that it works there, and I'm glad to hear that loppantorkel and Zamboni5000 are both functional as well. If you can plop in a line formatted similar to mine, to give just base model/year/processor/RAM/GPU/OS version I'll plop them in up top to keep the list fully updated. Luchador138, I can update yours with the OS version, if you can let me know what you're running.
Thanks!

Thank you for your help man, I was able to buy the game despite it telling me I am also running a 2.1 Open GL on steam, the research I've done says that most macs made around 2010 are provided with open GL 4.1 though I've read that 4.1 is still years behind :( as for what OS I'm using I'm using Yosemite OSX 10.10.2
The game runs surprizingly well on my Macbook Air 2011 13" (4GB RAM, i5, HD3000) 10.9.5
So, nobody has tried to download and run Darkest Dungeon and had it FAIL under what seems like it should work conditions? Nobody? Any other models beyond what we've listed have it work? We're looking for useful information here, to help take care of the Mac community. Red Hook is helping us by giving us a great game, and they could use this information, just to help keep us in sync with the app's progression. Speak up if you have anything to add.

Works like a charm on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) 2.7GHz i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB running 10.10.2.
Update:
Macbook Pro 2014 13'' Retina
2,6GHz Intel Core I5
RAM: 8GB
OS: Maverick 10.9.5

Works fine, but the fans run fairly hard.
macbook pro 2010 core2duo 2,66GHz
4gb Ram

works well, no problems
