Level Up?
I'm sorry if this sounds stupid but how do you level up? I just finished the first quest and my characters leveled up to 1 and I see no way of doing anything related to levels: applying skill points.

Resolve level increases stress resistance, an allows you to upgrade weapon/armor and skills to one level higher. You do need to have the guild and blacksmith upgraded enough, and have the gold to spend.

Also. How do I lower my character's stress?

You don't apply skill points.

However, it does mean allow you to do more with the character at the blacksmith and the guild, if those facilities have been built up enough.

Ah, thank you.

The tavern and abbey allow you to buy stress relief.

But beware going through all your money this way. It's often better to discard a character and get a replacement from the stage coach, especially if that hero has negative quirks plus stress.

Heroes are disposable in this game.

the guild and the blacksmith
higher level characters can use higher level gear and skills, but you have to buy it for each character.
they also get better stress resist as they level up

Thanks, but I'd rather blow through my cash keeping an amazing character alive than replace him/her with a weaker more pathetic one

Well, its explained in the game itself via a tooltip.
Tooltips are VERY vital and often contain very important information!

You really also want to have lots of heroes - don't think of them as characters. The impulse to save them rather then toss them due to stress is good (though sometimes quirks just get so bad). I find leveling up the barracks, guild and chapel (just the prayer and meditation options at first) is good in the beginning. You don't need to rush blacksmith upgrades at first, and the cost there is an issue as well - generally heirlooms making things you must buy cheaper are not a bad idea.

Big roster though, get one. With a nice big roster you can play around with different teams, not outlevel content with your favorite heroes and get the advantage of the free slow stress decline from leaving heroes sitting.

If you are using stress relief buildings, level them, it helps make them cheaper.

That's legitimate for advanced characters, and early ones with a really good Quirk/Trait you want to lock in. Just be mindful that you don't try to save everyone. Your Heroes will die painfully, it is inevitable.
