How to cure afflictions?

I've cured my afflictions by reducing stress in the abbey/tavern, I think that they go away if you remove enough stress.

Oh afflictions.

Just reduce stress. Usually it's enough to reduce stress once in a tavern or abbey, but you'd preferably lower it entirely to not instantly become afflcited again.

put them in any stress reducing facility/sanitarium.

costs are pretty high when you first start but they are manageable.

Is it possible to allow stress do reduce to 0 in hamlet in order to remove an affliction? In order to save cash at higher levels.

Presumably if you bring their stress to zero in the Hamlet (without using stress treatment facilities), the affliction would go away as soon as you take them into a mission if it didn't go away otherwise.
