Aka you. Roll 1 + 6 spd = 7 initiative
monster. roll 10 + 1 spd = 11 initiave
Monster goes first
You'll note that the turn order every turn varies. It appears the game rolls for initiate on each turn individualy. Because the turn order is never the same.
So it would be like
Turn1
You: Roll1 + 6spd = 7 initiateve
Monster: roll 2 +1 spd =3 initiave
You go first
Turn 2
You: Roll 3 + 6 spd = 9 initiative
Monster: roll 10 + 1 spd = 11 initiave
Monster goes first
Again 'generally' with your 6 spd you will go first more often than a 1 spd monster, but not always.
Wasn't the dice rolled a d8?
For what it's worth though, most of the time having 4 or so speed higher is fairly consistent for outspeeds. If it is a d8, it's something below 10% chance to lose that roll. d10 is about 20% if my math is right.
this is most likely bad luck, or otherwise you only really registering when it does happen and not all the times it doesn't.
