"1080p recommended" in minimum requirements...
Is this capable of being played on 720p? This is honestly somewhat vague.

Pretty sure it'd be "1080p required" if 1080p were, you know, required. I'm guessing they say recommended because they haven't optimized it for lower resolutions; as a result it might look bad (but still be playable) at resolutions under 1080p.

Can somebody who owns the game already throw some light on this issue? Is the UI chopped off for lower resolutions or what is the exact consequence for going below 1080p 16:9?

To detail the issue, it's about the last line in the minium system requirements:

MINIMUM:
OS: Windows 7+
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: Open GL 3.2+ Compliant
Hard Drive: 900 MB available space
Additional Notes: 1080p, 16:9 recommended

"720p" is just some marketing buzzword nonsense. Why don't you tell us what your monitor resolution is instead? And how are you not running a 1920x1080 monitor in 2015? I mean, sure, I ran a 1680x1050 monitor for the longest time, and gaze longingly at that 1920x1200 in the shop window from time to time, but 1920x1080 is pretty well the standard in today's gaming landscape.
I have a few pc's, one of which has a monitor w/ lower native resolution than 1920x1080 @ 16:9. This question was in regards to that pc. I'm pretty sure anyone with an older box lying around is curious as well.

I know you asked OP but other games I bought prior to this one did not require me to have a specific minimum resolution, probably just a sign of the early development stage but a problem nonetheless for a buyer.

One monitor on the machine I planned to play on has a max resolution of 1600x900 (old piece of crap but still working reliably). The other one has not the recommended aspect ratio. I play other games on this PC willingly at this resolution because those damn pixels doesn't affect my gameplay experience much less than the actual gameplay.

It just a matter of convinience as well for me as I have another PC with a better monitor flying around but it's used as TV most the time.

It isn't, and they did. 720p is 1280x720 you dimwitted swine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/720p

So there is no one actually owning the game right now able to throw light onto this? :-/

40 minutes, or maybe more, we're not sure yet.

edit: it's on sale now, testing in a little while.

Seems to work, will do more testing.
