Edit: And the perenial question: Are you using any mods?
Good call, it's likely mods, corrupt files, or issues with their PC. This game is rock solid, played it on multiple different PCs for years and I have never had a single crash that I can recall - but I don't mod the game.
Ensure that you have capped FPS (or) VSync enabled, as the game will go bonkers if it has too many frames to work with.
If you have any mods, disable them all before verifying files, then try the game in a vanilla (unmodded) state. If it's working fine that way, then you have some form of mod conflict. Alternatively, if you suspect mods may be a culprit, you can disable them one-by-one to try and identify the problem child.
If none of that helps, browse the Crash Bugs forum (and even non-Crash related forums) to see if people have already posted solutions, starting with the stickied posts, as those usually contain "to-do" lists that might help resolve various problems:
