From the wiki:
The Shieldbreaker has a 50% chance to experience a flashback when camping, where you will encounter Pliskins, Rattlers, and Adders depending on the dungeon level. The Shieldbreaker will warn the party if a nightmare will occur through a few unique barks after you've chosen to eat such as "This night holds no comfort for me". The flashback cannot be avoided with "Prevent nighttime ambush" skills.

Generic Shieldbreaker Blurb:
Shield Breaker has 3 Apprentice trinkets, 2 Veteran trinkets, and 2 Champion trinkets. By extension, you have 3 preset nightmares in Apprentice, 2 in Veteran, and 2 in Champion.
Having said that: even if you are in the right tier and try to camp for one of her trinkets, you still have to win a dice-roll to get the fight at all.
Once you've acquired all trinkets from a dungeon tier, she will no longer have nightmares in that tier -- and once you have beaten ALL 7 encounters, snakes will then have a chance of appearing during normal fights (so players can still farm Block Scale consumables).
Conversely, succeeding (or failing) a nightmare will provide the entire team with a strong stress-reduction buff (or stress-increasing debuff) for the remainder of the quest. Thus, it is advantageous to use snake-countering teams very early in the run so you can avail of the increased stress reduction for the rest of the mission. Alternatively, if a run is going well (and/or) you feel less comfortable with early camping, you can just leave it to the end of the dungeon so that no matter what happens, you can still go home with a successful mission (even if the snake ambush doesn't work out too well).
Ideally, consider heroes with a penchant for anti-PROT, anti-Stealth, and good burst damage (with a slice of stress reduction to deal with the aftermath) -- fully upgraded level 2's (apprentice) -- keep camping until you acquire three trinkets -- level 4's (veteran) -- keep camping until you get two trinkets -- and level 6's (champion) -- keep camping for the last two, but be careful during the "champion spike".
Walking into first-time champion missions with potentially under-leveled or non-upgraded 5's and being ambushed by snakes instead of enjoying the respite isn't always ideal, so keep that in mind until you learn all the preset battles and become more comfortable.
