Save Files Missing, Can't Find Them
After firing up the game on the new PC (which did not have any save files on it), I went back to my macbook (which DID have save files on it) and found that it didn't have any save files either anymore.

I've been reading forums and trying to find my save files, but haven't been able to. Were my files deleted when steam tried to "sync" with the newer machine? I hope not...

Hi!

As of build #9706, the game supports Steam Cloud saving and the local saved games locations has changed to:

C:\<*>\Steam\userdata\<Steam User ID#>\262060\remote

*Default starting folder is "Program Files (x86)", but depends on your personal setup.

Cheers

Cadogan,

Thanks for helping on this. I copied all the files from the profile_0 folder from the old save game location into the 262060\remote folder, fired up the game, and my old saves are not showing up in-game. The .json files copied over include:

novelty_tracker
persist.campaign_log
persist.estate
persist.game
persist.narration
persist.progression
persist.quest
persist.roster
persist.town
persist.tutorial
persist.upgrades

I've tired copying everything from the old Documents\Darkest folder directly into the \remote folder (including persist.options.json) as well as copying only what's in subfolder profile_0 (the other profile folders appear to be empty)

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I believe I found a fix. After copying all of my old saved game files over from the Darkest\Profile_0 folder, I renamed the "persist.game.json" file to "steam_init.json". I then started the game and a notice popped up that said the game was now using Cloud Save and that my old game files were being copied over.

I hope this info helps out anyone else whose save games seemed to disappear after the cloud save update.

Hi azurepeng!

Just to make sure, have you tried looking in the following location?:

C:\<*>\Steam\userdata\<Steam User ID#>\262060\remote

*This is the default location, but it might be different depending on where you've installed Steam.

Also, keep in mind that the "<>" shown above and what's inside them are placeholders, to be replaced with whatever your personal folder structure might be at that level.

Cheers

Hello! So once you have reaquired your old saves from the remote folder, where exactly do you place them so that they are usable again?

The save location is where it has always been.

Trying these things but having no luck. When I get into userdata, I'm presented with a set of numbered folders and no idea which one to put these files into.Tried guessing but no luck. There's also no files named "262060" in any of them.

Also, when I copy these files, to I keep the files inside "profile_0", or do I take them out?

Thanks this fixed my issue. I had cloud turned off and just put my old saves into the steam userdata directory, but my save would get corrupted resetting the progress back to week 0 (although it kept my rooster and trinkets).

Before this I was using a work around by playing the _windowsnosteam version which stores and uses the saves under Documents\Darkest.
