The Avoidance of Boss Fights and the Problem of Preparation.
I'm going to admit I'm not that far into the game, but that's partly because I have found that I can very easily grind out resouraces in the 1st level missions without too much difficulty.

If I had more aggressively faced boss fights I probably would have already defeated all the 1st lvl boss fights, but as it stands I'm unwilling to go until I have a near perfect team of lvl 2s assembled to take on these bigger threats; and since the carraige is random, despite getting it upgraded to max I still struggle to get a team I am satisfied with. The pull of grinding more resources is just more tantalizing then sending my team off to kill a boss for what? A rare item?

Maybe I'm just a huge ♥♥♥♥♥ but I am just not pulled to take action when I can spend all the time in the world preparing endlessly like a coward, with every mis-step setting me back from actually continuing the game.

I'm trying to work up the courage or even the motivation to fight these bosses but I'm just not feeling it. At this point I'm trying to get a team of lvl 3s ready, because last time I tried a lvl 3 mission I got rekt beyond belief. It was insane. So the lack of allure to boss fights and the difficulty leap in dungeons requires better prepared heroes which requires more resources which requires more preparation which requires better heroes hbhajghahrahgsiobrhishg

Is this a me problem or is anyone else feeling this and what is the core problem here?

You will have to learn that sacrificing soldiers is a reasonable step towards the ultimate goal, but it is not unreasonable to say that there is not a major incentive to risking them before they have a decent chance of success.

This is something that needs to be rectified, but it's still early, and the endgame isn't in the game yet.

To make it more productive, what do you think would entice you into sending your soldiers to their death?

Bosses are actually more of a "Puzzle fight" than a straight up slugfest where you want to have your strongest group of heroes to send out. If you're playing spoiler free, than what you would really want to do regarding bosses is to scout them out with a team you don't really care about, take note of the Boss's mechanics, then retreat and come back with a specialized party built around what you've learned.

If you can't find a team your satisfied with, than seriously consider the guild and look at the options.
Every Class has a multitude of different skills. The least versatile class is the Highwayman and he still has a lot of positioning options thanks to his various Melee, Ranged, and self-moving attacks.

The Crusader is typically seen as a damage dealer, but with the right skills and trinkets, he can be an effective Tank-Healer. With Commanders Orders, my Lv. 2 crusader is healing for 5-8 health, non-critical, and he can draw enemy fire with his Shield ability. Maybe it's not the best, but it has been working, and it's refreshingly novel.

Lv. 3 Heroes is the first time you get heroes that refuse lower level missions. Yes, you may have got rekt, but this is a bit of an important point in the game. Sometimes you need to flee, and those first Veteran missions are where this first gets made very clear. If it doesn't work out, just flee, no big deal. Just keep trying until you get some breaks. As soon as you get those Lv. 3s to Lv. 4s, you'll start feeling right back in the groove.

And then you hit level 5 and Champion difficutly, where your characters are 5% stronger than they were at level 4, and enemies are 50% stronger than the last series of dungeons.

That jump is a big one, and results in a lot of dead units.

I'm assuming the final game will encourage you to finish as quickly as possible (with different ending cutscenes or something)

Ive been putting off the level 1 boss fights for several Days now simply because the "Very Rare' trinkets being offered are garbage and are worse than the commons/Uncommon trinkets I've been getting in Short missions.

I don't see why it's unreasonable to make the Bosses a 1 one time only quest and let you choose which Trinket, out of their available pool, as a reward. Seems like it would be more...

rewarding.

I was actually working on getting every character to level 3 before taking on any of the apprentice bosses. Just realized earlier today that you can't take level 3s into green dungeon runs, did I miss something in the tutorial or is that never explicitly stated? I did manage to off every single one of the first level bosses with a ragtag mix of lowbies (many, many died) and the few level 2s left but it sucked pretty hard seeing as how my all-stars were already 3.

Also tried going directly to the veteran level swine prince with my fresh level 3s.
Nope, nope, nope, RETREAT!

If any of you are interested, the beta for the newest version of my mod is taking a modest stab at mid-late game difficulty and tactics. Check out the 'Modding' sub-forum for the 'Pitch Black Dungeon 4.0 Beta' thread.

I can hardly imagine that .... With how the difficulty is at the moment lol ... Like everyone said end game is not there yet so who know how they will balance the game or what will chance before we see it.

Myself having a hard time finding a healer that is doing well or that isnt dying .... So im pretty much playing with 2 Crusader which does all the healing and stress control with houndmaster and plague doctor .... It take a good amount of time to clear Lvl 1 Dungeon but hey at least they arent getting affliction or dying all the time lol

*And after a few skill upgrades im almost at 30,000gold :')*

But i must say im getting annoyed with a loads crap of disease ... I think i got 1 Disease that is interesting for my houndmaster and it's mainly cause it's giving +15%DMG and spd reduction and a little acc reduction
