Claustrophobia and Guilty Conscience??
They both occur fairly frequently for my heroes, but I've yet to see an instance where they've actually done anything. Is it just background stress or lower virtue change or something?

I've seen Guilty Conscience screw up a confessional booth curio interaction. Never seen an effect from Claustrophobia though to my knowledge.

I believe Claustrophobia increases the frequency and/or the amount of stress received when walking through the narrow corridors between rooms.

I'd considered that, but I've gotten that result without the quirk enough times that I can't really say for certain that's it.

If I remember correctly I've had it happen that claustophobia made my hero check an Iron Maiden without my permission.

I'm almost certain that's what happened but... I just can't believe that would be it, 'cuz that's silly as heck. Not only is one of the possible outcomes from an Iron Maiden that it gives you claustophobia, but it's also as if someone with arachnaphobia would check out the tree covered in spiderweb.

Still, it is possible. After all, there is a booze-related quirk that, iirc, interacts with only 1 fairly rare curio found in the warrens, and the egomania one that triggers only on the very rare mirrors found in the ruins. I guess this one is the same deal?

Mirrors in the ruins? I don't think I've ever seen those, and I'm on week ~250. Talk about rare! But that is good to know, as I'd completely forgotton about Egomania and should have asked about it too.
As far as Claustrophobia, I'm not entirely certain that would be what caused poking about the iron maiden. I know it can cause claustrophobia on a bad outcome, and that it can be triggered by Bloodthirsty and I think Necromania and Demonomania (though I could be wrong on either of those). I tend to leave Claustrophobia on my heroes, and I don't think I've seen it trigger anything before. I may be wrong though. They're certainly some mysterious quirks.

Sorry for necro, but google basically points to this post to answer the question. The wiki does a marginal job of this , which means I'm not the only one looking for the answer on this post.

Just had my Leper with Guilty Conscience run out to absolve himself on a "Alter of Light" curio, which is irritating, given that's a wasted 'until camp' buff. The only other one he had was "doesn't drink while in town" quirk, so it's safe to say that guilty conscience triggered it.

That being said, it's no claustrophobia. Which from other sources suggests that hallway stress of all types is increased upwards of about 20%, making it a VERY dangerous quirk.

An involuntary interaction with an iron maiden is also triggered by "paranormal"

Giving hallway stress +20% means nothing. That would mean it goes from1 - 1.2 or from 2 - 2.4

I believe it also affects stress damage taken in hallway fights.

Almost anything that boosts stress is bad. You can suck up a quirk like this if you must, but it makes stress boosting trinkets nearly suicidal, or at the very least requires careful stress management (usually you are better leaving that guy at home in treatment).

Which adds up pretty quickly in Courtyard quests and other long-hallway areas, even if you don't have any fights.

Does the game start to round up at .1 or .5? If it's .5, a 20% increase does literally nothing.

Pretty sure all the buffs/debuffs round up to the absolute minimum of at least 1 unit of whatever kind it is.
