Dunwich Horror (Question for Red Hook)
Hi Red Hook. I just read L.H. Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror" and noticed that parts of the story are similar to the Swine King boss and Wilbur in the Warrens. I'm wondering if this is where you got your inspiration from since most of the game has a strong Lovecraftian' feel.

I know that they're name is based on a story from Lovecraft, but I want to know specifically which stories their bosses came from. Of course I'm not just waiting for their response and am reading story by story to see if I can make some connections to the game whether it be enemy or area, but some straight info would be appreciated so I can read those stories without having to read the full book I bought of Lovecraft fiction (afterwards, I'm still going to read it completely, just not rushing through it and in one sitting preferably).

In another thread, RedHookChris said:

"Can confirm 'The Thing' and 'Mouth of Madness' were inspirations for the game. Also 'Aliens'.
So much great horror out there..."

I thought it was "At the Mountain of Madness"

Lovecraft-wise, we're pulling more from 'The Rats in the Walls' than from 'Dunwich'. But it's all good stuff :)

"Mountains of Madness" is a H.P. Lovecraft story, "In the Mouth of Madness" is a film inspired by H.P. Lovecraft...

Hm, to be honest it resembles more the "king in yellow", which was an inspiration to Lovecraft and was written Robert W. Chambers.

'Mountains of Madness' still remains one of my favorite Lovecraft stories. Low on the racism, long slow build of tension and a great monstrous reveal at the end. Shoggoths! We need some Shoggoths in DD! Pretty sure the big nasty at the end of the narrators opening cinematic is Shoggoth inspired, now that I think of it.

Well there is an old movie version of the Dunwhich Horror starring Dean Stockwell and Sandra Dee from 1970 - which is fairly terrible but amusing and an even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TV remake also starring Dean Stockwell from 2009.

Interesting, i will check these movies if I have the chance ;). I am just reading the complete fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and King in Yellow after I played a lot Arkham Horror with friends. I just love the atmosphere. Same thing what brought me to darkest dungeon.

I'm also reading through the collected works of lovecraft. You'll catch so many wonderful references if you do. For example the ghoul in the game is eerily reminiscent of the creature In Pickwick's Model.
