Keyboard control suggestions
Hey, really loving the game so far, even though I rarely get time to play a lot. Plan to really get into once it's released though.

This is kind of a mouse-centric game, I have had CTS and am wary of it, so some keyboard shortcuts would really help. I have some suggestions for additions to the list.

In-dungeon/Combat:
TAB: Change between Map and Inventory (really need this)
B: Bandage
F1-F4: Monster to attack / Hero to Heal. Would avoid a lot of clicking (are there ever more than four?).

Village:
Numbers 1-0: Village buildings (during battle this is skills obv). I think once you get used to them it will be easy to remember. From left to right would be most obvious.
U: Upgrade (in building)
F1-F4: Sorting the roster by stats.
A: Activity Log
T: Trinkets
C: Character screen (for consistency with dungeon).
G: Glossary (not really that much used…)

Generally, ESC should close all pop-up screens, this isn’t consistent, for instance Activity Log, Glossary.

For the quest-ending screens where there are only one option it should be possible to press Space to move to the next screen (treasure/stats).

Anyone else should feel free to add anything else that would be useful :)

Nice ideas, could help up the pace a notch.
Concerning the glossary, i wish we had a fully detailed description of beaten enemies with their location/resistance/seen attacks. So that playing for a while would grant you a tactical advantage without using a wiki page or a sheet of paper.

I approve of this. Especially the tab swap between map and inventory!

yes please. this game screams for keyboard controls.

an alternative for the hit location could 7,8,9,0 for the different monster slots

Well, they did make Tab change map/inventory so that's good but it was kind of a no-brainer :)

The others, well more keyboard controls are always good for efficiency.

One thing I'd really like to have them fix is that the Activity Log and Glossary can't be closed with Esc, but that's more like a pet peeve :)

1) there is a "Feedback and Suggestions" forum. so if this thread disappears maybe it'll end up there

2) mmmmmm I'd say try to use controls similar to industry standards or whatever. like tab cycles to next tab, shift-tab cycles backwards to previous tab

far as having functionalites for different buttons uhmmmm hm yeh I dunno about using F1 &c keys for different stuff. like, your brain has to switch back and forth. normally i wouldn't be worried about overtaxing some ppl's brane cells buuuuut :steamfacepalm: yeh ok let's just not.

BUT at ANY rate no matter what happens there should be a tooltip or some kinda indication for what hotkey does what in game - preferably not a mouseover either, but pretty clearly indicated from the on-screen text like "(E)xpedition" or something

also for whatever reason I've read some people like all the controls to be on the left side, so they can keyboard with left while using mouse with right. or doing whatever they do with their right hand :steamfacepalm: which we shall not mention again here, letting people do wat they do in the privacy of their homes :steamhappy:

finally - ideally keyboard controls OUGHT to be remappable, AND the keyboard controls show up on screen when they're remapped. So like if you have "(E)xpedition" and you change the hotkey from E to T for whatever reason, then you see the text on screen change to "Expedition (T)"

yeah I might say somethin like I would just take this stuff for granted :steamfacepalm:

but maybe I take too much for granted :steamfacepalm:

clean water :steamhappy:

clean air :steamhappy:

bed to sleep on at night :steamhappy:

food wot isn't moldy or rotten :steamhappy:

food :steamhappy:

i kno rite

i'm blessed :steamhappy:

i could just assume that meant carpal tunnel syndrome

buuut that would not be fun :steamhappy:

so I will say u must have meant critical thinking skills :steamfacepalm:

yes it is wise to be wary of that :steamfacepalm:

it's dangerous :steamfacepalm:

just give me all that evil stuff :steamfacepalm:

i'll make sure it's disposed of properly :steamfacepalm:

but for real remappable controls and text changing in-game to display updated hotkeys at all times

git on it

LOL, ok... if you say so! I sure could use some more Critical Thinking Skills from time to time.

Well, this thread is a bit old anyway and mostly they are just suggestions. I much prefer fast keyboard shortcuts from clicking on itty-bitty icons. I do enough of that at work with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ applications where good UI designers have been nowhere around when they were developed...

Besides I don't really play DD that much any more, let's just say I hit a wall.

Hey, thanks for sharing your ideas!

I personally agree that more shortcuts is one of the things this game needs the most right now, but that sort of topic would probably be better in the Suggestion & Feedback forum than the general one.

I agree that it's one of the shortcut I miss the most. TAB is a good place for it.

They did? Neat!

B: Bandage
There's at least a shortcut for torches, but making more supplies usable this way would be good. Don't think it's the most important, though.

Ah, good one. The ability to pick skills isn't very useful without the ability to actually use them. I was thinking of confirming with Enter/Return before using 1-4 to target, but I agree that your idea works better. If the F buttons are an issue, 7-8-9-0 would work fine too.

Village:
Numbers 1-0: Village buildings (during battle this is skills obv). I think once you get used to them it will be easy to remember. From left to right would be most obvious.
U: Upgrade (in building)
Showing or hiding the upgrade menu, you mean?

F1-F4: Sorting the roster by stats.
Speaking of managing the roster, I'd also appreciate a way to scroll up and down the roster without using the mouse.

A: Activity Log
T: Trinkets
C: Character screen (for consistency with dungeon).
G: Glossary (not really that much used…)
Trinkets and Character screens would be useful. And adding a shortcut for every one of those makes sense. We could also add Heirloom trading.

Generally, ESC should close all pop-up screens, this isn’t consistent, for instance Activity Log, Glossary.
Oh gods, yes. I never know if ESC will close the screen or bring up the pause menu. To me, that's the most annoying thing with shortcuts right now.

Given that you end up in the Activity Log after each quest, that gets annoying quickly.

For the quest-ending screens where there are only one option it should be possible to press Space to move to the next screen (treasure/stats).
Space or Enter, yes.
