Sort of like how the first two characters are ALWAYS Reynauld and Dismas, all the other classes have ‘default’ names.
Plague Doc is Paracelsus
Vestal is Junia
Hellion is Boudica
Bounty Hunter is Tardif
Grave Robber is Audrey
Occultist is Alhazred
Jester is Jingles
Leper is Baldwin
Arbalest is Missandei
Man-at-Arms is Barristan
and Houndmaster is… and I ♥♥♥♥ you not… “Shag & Scoob”
Paracelsus was the founder of toxicology and known to be independent, critical, and stubborn.
Saint Junia was supposedly an apostle who traveled with the apostle Paul as a missionary.
Boudica was a queen of the British Iceni tribe who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire.
Tardif is an old French word meaning “late” or “belated” and is occasionally seen as a surname in France and Canada.
Audrey is an Anglo-Norman name roughly translating to “noble” and “strength”. Could refer to Saint Audrey, who refused to consummate her marriage to her husband. Audrey’s double-meaning is “tawdry” or “cheap”.
Alhazred is the last name of H.P. Lovecraft’s “Mad Arab”, who wrote the Necronomicon.
Jingles is … well, I suppose it could refer to those annoying, addictive, short tunes you hear in commercials and advertisements. Also bells. Of course.
Baldwin refers to Baldwin IV, the leper king of Jerusalem.
Missandei … “Miss, and die.” LOL. The name of a Game of Thrones / Song of Ice and Fire character.
Barristan is also the name of a Game of Thrones / Song of Ice and Fire character.
Shag and Scoob need no introduction!
Dismas refers to St. Dismas, the penitent thief who was crucified alongside Jesus.
Reynauld may refer to Ser Reynauld of Tours; a crusader who died during the Battle of Mount Cadmus. The name is derived from an Old High German personal name made up of the elements “ragin” (advice, decision) and “wald” (power, authority).
Adding in some new info to fill in the gaps from the stream today (people should keep an eye on this, it sounds like they’ll be doing a lot more as the game gets closer to release):
corignis: @Redhookstudios, Where does the name Tardif come from? It is the default name for the Bounty Hunter, in the Starting_Roster script. Most of the names in there come from Game of Thrones, early christianity, or the Crusades.
RedHookChris: Our programmer, Pierre Tardif :)
Daimera: And how about Audrey, for the GR?
RedHookChris: Audrey is my wife’s name - and I sort of based the GR on her - blonde, roguey, stabby
