This. Also I kinda like that there's an "iconic" look for each class. I don't really want to see them all redone (especially considering how flashy end-game outfits tend to look in games) with new gear I might not like the look of yet will be stuck with forever.
this right here would be fine.
Mhm...
I can get behind this...
But...
Quite sad though, it could add a lot to the game in my opinion... Eh, maybe one day. Have the devs ever talked about this on the forum?
So yes, hell yes!
That said, I think it's something that could benefit the game a lot. Seeing heroes fully upgraded could make players become more attached to them and thus increase the impact of death. Right now death is just a stat reset. Everything else that makes a level 6 character feel unique (their name and outfit colour) can immediately be applied to level 0 replacement if they die.
Someone could create an alternate skin for each upgrade level, and the player could manually change to that skin after they complete each upgrade.
There is currently no script in game to make it auto-change. So a modder with scripting skills could pair up with an aritst to make an extensive mod for it.
But as said earlier it would be an extensive, time-consuming process, as there is at least 10+ anim assets for each class. So assuming there are 4 upgrades (can't remember now) that is a total of 40+ art assets per class.
As an artist myself, I doubt I would take on such a large project unless I either a) had tons of free time, or b) got paid to do so.
This could be do-able w:o forcing people to change skin automatically
It depends on how much the skin change over the upgrades. It has to stay discreet, so just making the most "low-tier-looking" parts of the skin (holes in clothes, rust on weapons...) disappear could be enough (or at least a nice first step), without asking too much time, no? (I may be wrong, I'm no game dev or artist)
