as for ruin your experience, probably not unless you're playing on the hardest difficulty
The leader of the Courtyard is the Countess, therefore to clear this campaign, you'll need to slay the Countess (as well as the other two bosses before her).
So what makes CC especially difficult? The answer is simply the Crimson Curse (which can be inflicted by the Bloodsuckers), a dangerous disease that, unlike other diseases in the game, not only is it contagious, but it can also kill your heroes if not well managed. Effectively, Crimson Curse causes affected heroes to start craving for a substance called The Blood, and if not given to them in time, they will simply waste away and die. It's also worth noting that until the Countess has been slain, the Crimson Curse cannot be cured via the Sanatorium building unlike all other diseases.
There's other CC info I could mention as well, but that might be me explaining too much to a new player. Regardless, to answer your question: Yes, this DLC is certainly challenging and therefore not recommended for newcomers.
If you've already purchased the DLC, don't worry, there should be a small icon either to the right or left (I don't remember) of the save file (on the save file screen) which lets you choose which DLCs you want to enable. However once a DLC(s) is enabled for a save file, it cannot be disabled unless you start a new save.
Hopefully all the above info answers your post
- It can only be held back by giving a liquid called 'The Blood' to anyone who's infected (which happens IMMEDIATELY after you visit the Courtyard for the first time).
- Unless you stockpile blood through a district building early on and also gather enough from missions, heroes infected by the disease will slowly die, even while they are in town unless you leave enough blood in stock.
- As the disease spreads, monsters from the CC will start appearing in the biomes. You are not safe from it in any biome or even in the Hamlet because if a single slot in any facility is occupied by an infected hero, there's a good chance they'll infect other heroes that also use said facilities.
