Yeah, the positions start from the centre and go outwards. So for enemies it's 1, 2, 3, 4, but for your team it's 4, 3, 2, 1.

haha God, why is there no indication of this in the game. It was very confusing...
Yeah, I never understood the point of that shield. Why would you ever have an MAA in the very back? I sometimes like to use MAAs to spam Bolster, but I would still obviously want them to be able to hit.

That shield is a Red Hook inside joke

When you get tired of being good and want to restrict yourself to three skills, two of which are borderline useless. Don't forget to run your vestal in row 2 while you're at it.

It can be usefull against the Prophet. It's a superdefensive build, get the MAA in position 4 and give him all the skills to buff himself and protect the party.

When the prophet calls rubble the MAA will defend one marked companion, get hit by the rubble but with a superbuffed protection taking half of the dmg.

OFC the rest of the team must be an heavy dmg dealer becouse in position 4 the MAA does not have a single attack.

Probably this strategy is viable at stygian difficulty against lvl 5 Prophet.

BTW, the tactical depth of this game is amazing, and even trinkets that seem a joke can have a proper role.

Rank 5 guard gets you to the protection cap in two uses, meaning you can put the MAA up front with a recovery charm, get the exact same benefits but retain riposte, which the prophet will trigger more than once a round.

I find this trinket to be very usefulll if I use my MAA strictly as a buffer. He can guard one of my squishies and increase his own prot, and a couple of those +ACC +Dodge buffs stacked up make my team almost ridicuously OP.

That was my idea too, but i think that @ No One has a point since you can still cap prot in 2 rounds but also be in a position to do dmg and use resposte

Probably this kind of trinkets is a trap for people that tought to have understood the details before getting wallfaced by a lvl 5 boss that I yet have to encounter...
