Indeed they're so close, the optimal one to upgrade swaps back and forth depending on levels and which characters you predominantly use. Speed upgrades are more important, as are levels which give DOT damage ups.
i have to choose a dungeon type for deeds or protraits, u know.
after a couple of upgrades in the blacksmith I would definitely invest in the guild, as upgrading your abilities is necessary to improve their chances of hitting (all of that damage means nothing if they never connect). It also makes party buffs and healing VASTLY better, such as the jester's party ballad (the crit buff on its own is god-like, and then you get speed and accuracy).
Also make sure that you also upgrade the recruitment cart (that lets you hire new characters for ya party), upgrade the one that lets your party of guys be bigger (hold more of them on ya team).
Also: Stage Coach is overrated, I did fine with no upgrades for a loooong time. Somebody's looking kinda pale, drop em' out and get new guys. You got two parties worth of slots from the beginning anyway. People only need stage coach upgrades in the beginning who are somehow wrecking 2-3 members per run... So for the majority, it can wait. Invest in your Blacksmith instead.
+ it will bring more coherence to your heroes, having a hero with high level of skills and low level of weapon/armor, or vice-versa, just makes no sense... you want to have like a level 3 hero with at least his/her level 3 of skills/weapon/armor.
So basically, the first weeks in the game, you'll be upgrading first your stage coach in order to have at least 4 heroes/week + the more room for your roster (which you want to max ASAP).
Once this is done, you can start to upgrade equally the guild and the blacksmith.
You don't need that much to upgrade your healing facilities in the first weeks, as your heroes will be disposable... unless they have godly quirks, when heroes are in bad shape, you'll just dismiss them instead of wasting loads of money to keep them in shape, there will be fresh meat coming in each week.
Don't neglect to upgrade the Nomad Wagon, it will only cost you crests, which you get by tons in any mission, and you can get good trinkets for cheap... upgrade first the Merchant Network to the max, to reduce the price of the trinkets, then, when you have spare crests left, upgrade the Wagon Size.
and after weapons do guild for skills, mostly focus on upgrading skills that heal and buff
