Red ribbon with a skull next to a portrait?

Just came back to play this game again and there's a couple of new things that it doesn't bother to explain.

What does a red ribbon next to a portrait mean? Debuff?

Means those heroes are on the default 'embark' for quests

I think it means that particular hero in the line up for the adventure.

The heroes you put in the Embark slots on the map screen will now be saved and this mark tells you who they are. This makes it very easy to select a team on the map screen and go back to the hamlet to prepare them, or see which heroes were on your last quest.
