Main Character?

From what I've seen and read about Darkest Dungeon, it would seem there is no main character? The parties seem to be made up of disposable heros, or do you make a main character and have hired characters accompany you? Clarification would be appreciated, thank you.

Yes, you don't have a main hero, rather a roster of "disposable" heroes.

You could say that you are the main character - the heir to the estate and manor. You don't participate in combat yourself, however.

YOU are the main character, because you inherited the estate. The heroes come to work for you, so they are disposable, because they are mercenaries.

Disposable, yes and no, consider every character as an investment, you're going to spend a lot of resources to equip, manage and fine tune each of them, once they reach apprentice status they aren't so disposable anymore.
