Veteran Dungeon Difficulty
I have 8 level 3 veterans in my roster but they seem pretty weak for these dungeons, I only have skill and weapon/armor upgrades up to level 2 and barely have the money to boost them.

Did I screw up? I get the feeling I'm gonna have to start dropping veterans off my roster because I won't even be able to do apprentice dungeons anymore.

Gear and skills level 2 won't cut it for Veteran missions, you will have to upgrade them.

I suggest working on some rookies to make some money, even if it means firing some of your most "worn out" veterans.

Make sure to upgrade your roster size, then focus on unlocking the Tier 3 Upgrades.

Once you have recovered and assembled at least enough veterans to form up two distinct groups, you should be able to tackle Veteran missions smoothly.

Whats your lineup consist of? with early lvl dungeon runs you could literally run 4 plague doctors and prolly win albeit stressed out, higher the difficulty the more demanding the game is of a good lineup.

Level 2 equipment will work, but it's harder - like running level 0's. So run the short missions, play it safe.

My best group so far has been Plague Doctor/Vestal and anything else that can do damage, I've been really relying on just permastunning everything so they can't get any damage done...typically a crusader since he can also stun

But with Vet they have way more resistances so I think I need to rely on brute force more.

Low accuracy kills runs. You need to keep your guys up to snuff.

Don't neglect armor either- it's what determines their base HP. A level 3 hero running a veteran dungeon with level 2 armor is going to really suffer against a few bad crits.

They supposedly made the game a lot grindier.

Need money quick? Go to the provisions page, open the Trinket box on top, then drag magic items to the inventory (you can just about manage) and then sell them to the provisions box... Made 50 000 gold for the ancestors map... You make 5000 per common trinket...

They do seem like a huge step up in difficulty at first, but it gets better eventually. My first Veteran run ended in disaster (lost a hero and had to abandon it before any others died too).

Upgrading weapons, armour, and skills to level 3 helps a lot. Among skils especially prioritise upgrading those you use the most, like Vestal's healing skills for example.

Knowing your dungeon area also makes a big difference here. You might have to pick the classes that are better suited for each area. For example a Hound Master I found not to be too good in a Cove, where most enemies have bleeding resistances, but he's perfect for a Weald. And so on. Likewise, you can improve your heroes via trinkets. Ruins for example have a lot of human and unholy enemies, so trinkets boosting damage against those help a lot.

Also, start with short runs. They're easier to do than medium ones. If I had to recommend which dungeon area to start with, I'd say the Ruins. From what I tried so far, it seems the easiest of all areas so far for Veteran difficulty. Cove has very damaging enemies. Warrens have those pig centaurs which have a tonne of health and deal some heavy party-wide damage (Psst, use Occultist for the Dmg debuff against them). Weald can get nasty with those fungal enemies blighting and marking you constantly, and also those ectoplasms using cytokinesis to spawn clones of themselves.

Holy crap I just tried this and it works.

My Helion trinket would sell for 1125 gold but at the provision vendor I'll get 7500.

Is this a bug?

Remember there's no need to forget about your rookies as soon as you have a viable team of lvl 3s. Use rookies to get loot to improve the heroes you think need improvement.

Indeed I find the deeper a roster I have the smoother things go. I generally don't really push into Veteran Dungeons until all of the Apprentice bosses are dead, which means I'll have a good number of 3rd level heroes ready to go by that time and usually a roster of at least 20. Just pushing through with one group leads to feeling like one is grinding I guess, but if you see yourself as managing a team I've found it more enjoyable.
