I suggest working on some rookies to make some money, even if it means firing some of your most "worn out" veterans.
Make sure to upgrade your roster size, then focus on unlocking the Tier 3 Upgrades.
Once you have recovered and assembled at least enough veterans to form up two distinct groups, you should be able to tackle Veteran missions smoothly.
But with Vet they have way more resistances so I think I need to rely on brute force more.
Don't neglect armor either- it's what determines their base HP. A level 3 hero running a veteran dungeon with level 2 armor is going to really suffer against a few bad crits.
Upgrading weapons, armour, and skills to level 3 helps a lot. Among skils especially prioritise upgrading those you use the most, like Vestal's healing skills for example.
Knowing your dungeon area also makes a big difference here. You might have to pick the classes that are better suited for each area. For example a Hound Master I found not to be too good in a Cove, where most enemies have bleeding resistances, but he's perfect for a Weald. And so on. Likewise, you can improve your heroes via trinkets. Ruins for example have a lot of human and unholy enemies, so trinkets boosting damage against those help a lot.
Also, start with short runs. They're easier to do than medium ones. If I had to recommend which dungeon area to start with, I'd say the Ruins. From what I tried so far, it seems the easiest of all areas so far for Veteran difficulty. Cove has very damaging enemies. Warrens have those pig centaurs which have a tonne of health and deal some heavy party-wide damage (Psst, use Occultist for the Dmg debuff against them). Weald can get nasty with those fungal enemies blighting and marking you constantly, and also those ectoplasms using cytokinesis to spawn clones of themselves.
Holy crap I just tried this and it works.
My Helion trinket would sell for 1125 gold but at the provision vendor I'll get 7500.
Is this a bug?
Sounds likely.
Indeed I find the deeper a roster I have the smoother things go. I generally don't really push into Veteran Dungeons until all of the Apprentice bosses are dead, which means I'll have a good number of 3rd level heroes ready to go by that time and usually a roster of at least 20. Just pushing through with one group leads to feeling like one is grinding I guess, but if you see yourself as managing a team I've found it more enjoyable.
