You can mitigate the RNG through ways in game, but at times it can feel like you're getting screwed. Nothing is assured, your heroes can die, and expeditions will end in a rout. It'll take time to get everything down but with experience you can control your fights.
Knowing your heroes, their abilities and handling their stress, and knowing what your enemy can and can't do, are the biggest things.
Next is figuring out the curios(ities) you come across, they play an important part with navigating the dungeons. Some are blessings and others can cause problems with your party.
All in all, I'd give the game a shot. You can always refund it before the first two hours but if you're still iffy about it around then, watch some early gameplay from others to get a feel from it.
Thanks! An unfair death is somewhat fair when you playing the RNG game because you sometimes are blessed with RNG. Battle Brothers is just too hard and I feel too complex to reduce the RNG curve. More than what I am willing to put into for that genre of game.
Characters will probably die, death is (mostly) permanent, but they can be replaced. Everyone has some backstory, but it's the same backstory for the class as a whole and what detail you want to put into it per individual is just up to your headcanon, basically.
Which is not to say that I don't recommend the game. I love this game. But I don't play it for RP elements in general.
I understand this is more of a dungeon crawler in a fantasy setting that is gear based and tactical which I like, CRPG's are like that with a lot more emphases on exploration and Role play. I'm just wondering if the RNG makes this game brutal like Battle Brothers? I love table top dice role games, just not ♥♥♥♥♥♥ RNG that's too brutal to manage.
If the player approaches the game on its own terms, you can zero out the effect of RNG. A zero death zero retreat playthrough is achievable for normal players. It's not restricted to speedrunners or other obsessive player types. It's still not worth the effort, but if you really want to, it's realistic and feasible.
I'm fairly sure you should pick this game up. If you find it's giving you trouble, then read my guide. It will probably make it too easy, but that's better than being unplayably hard. DD is a game with a bunch of cruft to search through, which makes it seem like a usual trial-and-error roguelike. However, someone can just tell you the good stuff in about 25 minutes, and you can faceroll the game once you understand what you read.
Note that by default DD has no loss condition. No matter how badly you screw up, you can fix it. Fixing it will even be faster than restarting.
I have not experienced the RNG to be too brutal, personally. I am that kind of person who spends nearly as much time setting up the squad in preparation for a run as I do actually doing the dungeon run, though. A lot of the RNG can be mitigated with a well-selected team and proper preparation.
Right on, other than a heavy story element from CRPG's I think I will really enjoy this game. It's more straight forward and will be a nice break before I move onto another CRPG.
I purchased DD and will start my heavy intense playthrough once I am finished with pillars of eternity 2 ( Which is soon I believe ).
Thank you!
Perfect. I am looking for such a game. Thanks :)
