Farming Shambler's ancestral trinkets ... -_-

So, my DD profile has almost 300 weeks and my roster consists of almost only 6 level heroes. I've recently increased its size to 36 to be able to recruit new heroes.

I have 12 ancestral trinkets and can't get them from quests anymore so I have to slay Shambler for the rest 4. I made around 10 runs with newbies only and didn't see a single Eldritch Altar . During these runs I partially played with 0 light meter but Shambler didn't appear as well. I don't really want to look for Eldritch Altar's with lvl 5+ crew since champion Shambler is pain in the a$$ and much harder than lower level versions, too much risk.

What would you do? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

Remember they have a chance of randomly spawning without an altar if you have zero light. The chance is much higher on higher level missions, so it is sure to be much faster if you bring your high level crew to the task.

You're gonna have to risk it with your top guys. I mean, what else are they even supposed to do? Granted every death makes the double D harder but still.

I farm Shambler with two Crusaders and two GRs. All are lvl 2 with upgraded gear and skills. I send them on dark runs at short scout missions and abort wheter or not I find Shambler

In any case, I think the chance of an altar during a mission is around 1 in 10, and the chance to replace a normal battle when you have no light is only 1% on level 1 missions. You have a much better chance if you run dark level 5 missions.

Alternatively, try farming Shamblers in Veteran dungeons. The chance of a Shambler spawn in full dark is higher than in Apprentice dungeons, and the fight isn't all that hard with fully upgraded level 4s.

Thanks for the tips, guys! The one I find especially useful is that I can abort missions if I find no altar. Ingeniously, this didn't come to my mind! This way I can prevent leveling up of the hunting crew.
2 lvl 2 GRs + 2 lvl 2 Crusaders sounds good. Lunge and Holy Lance spam!

I really hate this game for being such grindy in the middle and end. Finally collected all the trinkets. So, the fastest way to do it is to crawl in complete darkness in Champion dungeons and to wait for Shambler to invite you to beat him. During all these runs I didn't find a single f**cking Eldritch altar. Like if they stopped being generated in the dungeons. Now it's time to embrace the dake and finally visit Darkest Dungeon itself.

This may sound silly, but did you get the Ancestor's Scroll from a Shambler or just a long champion dungeon? I only still need that one & Ancestor's Map, which i know comes from Shamblers. But i'm really not sure about that scroll... Never seen it as a quest reward before...

Wiki page about Shambler indicates which ones can be obtained after slaying this boss only - http://darkestdungeon.gamepedia.com/Shambler . Map and Scroll are Shambler exclusive trinkets as we can see, so yeah, you need to encounter and beat him if you wish to obtain them.

The scroll too? Darn. Okay, thanks for telling me. Guess the end to my shambler hunting is further than i imagined...

Yeah, that's what wiki says. And I've just checked one game file:

...\DarkestDungeon\trinkets\default.trinkets.json

and found there are trinkets with rarity named

ancestral_shambler

and there are exactly 5 trinkets with this rarity and not a surprise they're the ones listed on wiki.

I can also tell you that I got precisely 5 trinkets from Shambler. So, everything matches.
