If I don't have a GR in the Warrens, however, the wretches can be very very annoying.
...what exactly did they do with that Swine Wretch...?!
They're no Cultists in that they don't pull/push your party, nor are they the "fishmages" of the Cove that give that 25% damage buff and heal the enemy. In terms if stress-inducing enemies I'd rate them thusly, least threatening/annoying to worst:
Skeleton with the tempting cup
Swine Wretch
Cultist/Fishmage
Lunatic/Maniac (these guys are the absolute worst!)
I think my main complaint about Swine Wretches versus these other guys is the disease bit. Their stress attack is quite weak, I agree, but unless you have a PD/GR and a camp available, you have to put up with the disease effect until the end of dungeon. A regular stress attack doesn't generally hurt any of your characters unless you get to affliction level, whereas getting hit with the Runs, the Red/Black Plague, etc. can cripple a character for an entire run.
b) Just get disease resist trinkets, simple. If I remember correctly they are common.
c) If not GR, then get Plague Doctor - she can stun last 2 rows 3 times in a row with right trinkets, and also can remove diseases
Right there in the game.
If you're going to pig town, you're going to catch something. So be ready for it! That, or just deal with it in the sanitarium later. While an early disease can ♥♥♥♥ a mission over, if its bad enough, you need to know when to leave and try again another week. But if its like, at the tail end of a run just curse your bad luck/the RNG and go about your day. Its part and parcel of the Darkest Dungeon Experience. Remember, you can run from combat and even abandon quests. If things are going terribly, live to fight another day.
But not to be completely unsympathetic to your plight, yes I do hate the little arseholes as much as the next person, but like many of the commentors in the thread have pointed out, there are things you can do to deal with the little porcine pukers or the fallout of their horking.
I don't need 'god' (aka the developers) to act like they were a mistake or something and take them out. Not to call the topic creator out specifically on this, since they didn't, but I feel far too many people think because we live in an age where we CAN talk to developers about the content of their games, that for some reason they're beholden to us to appease our every childish whim.
I dunno, food for thought.
